- Scene: Dragons Inn, Smokey and crowded as usual. Our attention is drawn to
- two dark figures. One is sitting at a table watching the others in
- the inn, the other is holding a baby of two months' age.
-
- Luthor to Kadrys:
-
- "I'm going to take Mista for a little walk, care to join me?" Luthor knew that
- the midday sun would cause Kadrys some discomfort, but he thought he would
- ask anyway. The two had a lot of catching up to do.
-
- "I think I'll stay. I would like to watch life for a while." Kadrys
- gestured to the bustling inn where people ate and drank and loved and
- occasionally died. All of these were distant memories to the ancient vampire.
-
- "As you wish," finished Luthor. He disappeared out of the inn in a sweeping
- Elven bow.
-
- Outside the inn, the sun was shining brightly, made even more bright by the
- reflection of the light off the pureness of the new fallen snow. In this
- light, the Golden Elf blood of Luthor's ancestors became obvious as the sun
- played off his golden skin. Surounded by this briliance, Luthor's BLACK
- cloak seemed to shrink as if afraid. Thus was the nature of his magic, in
- the face of the light of truth, it was powerless.
-
- In the new air, Luthor inhaled deeply. There was a hint of salty water in
- the wind which set off something in the brain of every adventurer. It brought
- thoughts of adventure and discovery, of friends old and new. For Luthor it
- also brought back the memory of Mista's miraculous birth on the shore, two
- months past.
-
- Perhaps the infant remembered it also, the sparrow's flight from the
- storm of the unknown into the welcoming warmth of the feast-hall of
- life. She certainly flung her arms wide as if embracing the world which
- greeted her. Her eyes flashed black and her mouth wrapped around a
- smile of glee. Small fists waved in the bright sunshine.
-
- Luthor adjusted Mista's blanket to keep the cold air away from her. Just
- above a wisper, he spoke, "Well my little dancer, where shall we go today?
- I thought a trip across town to the shore might do you some good. Perhaps
- your father will pay us a visit if he is so inclined. What do you say?"
-
- "Ghi," responded his goddaughter agreeably, as she grabbed her own
- nostril. Turning to look every which way, she wriggled strongly in
- Luthor's arms. Ever attendant to her whim, he indulgently shifted her
- until she seemed satisfied - facing straight out in her sling, back
- against her godfather, facing every new sight and sound.
-
- With that matter settled, the two started across town. Watching them
- depart from the inn was the form of an agile woman. She withdrew from
- her window and crawled back into bed for a little nap. Sleep closed its
- dark cloak around her and was pleased to find a smile on her face. The
- lady slept deeply as the healing energies of her body and the good
- thoughts of those who loved her repaired the injuries of her brain.
