- From the pen of Jim Borgman, of the Cincinnati Enquirer, syndicated
- nationally (watch for it!), as appearing on the Op-Ed page of the
- Bergen (New Jersey) Record this morning:
-
- Five panels, entitled "Thank you for SHARING this attempt to REACH
- SOME NEW AGE INAUGURAL CLOSURE"
-
- Panel 1, Bill Clinton and David Crosby, Crosby's arm on Clinton's
- shoulder, both holding cheeseburgers: "The day began with an
- invocation by David Crosby calling for spiritual, psychic,
- infrastructural and tonsorial healing. He then escorted Bill Clinton
- to McDonald's 2 for $2 sale for the now-legendary 'cup of decaf.'"
-
- Panel 2 (biggest panel), A nine-person rock group, with (apparently)
- FZ on drums, in stove-pipe hat, all before massive backdrop saying
- "ZAPPA IS GOD": "Aging boomer group Fleetwood Mac reunited with
- supergroup Cream in a rendition of 'Stairway to Heaven,' after which
- the entire 32-45 generation dissolved into confusion."
-
- Panel 3, Pentagon in mid-air: "Shakti Gawain lead a mediation during
- which the Pentagon was levitated. . . . and Les Aspin's inner child
- was released in the form of Macaulay Culkin."
-
- Panel 4, Plumpish guy on stool playing banjo: "Poet and national
- father figure Robert Bly led a drumming session for the masculinely
- challenged. The 'wildman spirit' of incoming Secretary of State
- Warren Christoper was invoked, but the motion was referred to
- committee pending further study."
-
- Panel 5, CD set entitled 'We Are the Wonks': "The highlight of the
- inaugural ball was a roundtable conducted by Bill Moyers on
- 'Co-dependence and the Bureaucrat Within' . . . soon to be released as
- a 10 compact disc boxed set!"

- Two questions:
-
- 1) What does it all mean?
-
- 2) Did FZ ever wear a stove-pipe hat? On Hot Rats he is shown
- somewhere in London wearing a bowler, but I don't recall any
- stove-pipe.
