- (getting tedious yet?)
- I just got (suprise suprise) the demo for Pax Imperia and while being very
- impressed at the depth of it (for a demo), I have noticed many of the
- things everyone else has noticed. First and foremost it is VERY slow on an
- LC 4/40 running 7.01 even with all extensions off (giving me ~3000k RAM
- free, of which every drop I allocated to Pax). Screen redraws were
- abysmally slow and even clicking on buttons was a pain in that it took
- forever. At several times I ended up clicking like mad thinking I'd crashed
- (of which I'll get to momentarily). Since it doesn't have a manual of any
- sort, I'm compeltely lost as to what to do in the game, so i've just
- puttered around. Doesn't use balloon help (which would be nice), nor does
- the "About Pax Imperia" under the Apple Menu say much.
- On to the crashes and bugs. Well, the crashing I've noticed
- especailly. I think in the first 15 minutes I TRIED to play it (very
- complex) I crashed about 3 times, usually "A Type -2 Error Has Occured"
- type of crash which returns to the Finder. Not fatal, but horribly
- annoying. Very crash-worthy and buggy.
-
- Personally, I think Pax-Imperia is a phenominal game, and I highly commend
- Changeling software for their work on this project. Unfortunately, from
- what I've read and my own encounters, Pax is in need for a major tuneup and
- shouldn't have been released for another month at bare minimum. If beta
- testers didn't get the bugs *I* got (which were easy to get), it leads me
- to believe Changeling didn't do much beta testing. I hope Changeling does
- well off of Pax, it seems they're a great revoltuionary company. I've been
- waiting for a game with this amount of complexity which will keep me
- occupied for months, if not a year or so, yet be fun enough to not drive me
- nuts. Biggest suggestions would be to speed it up, fix the manual, and
- remove the bugs.
