- In response to John Kraft who suggested a look at Terror Mgmt Theory
- as a new addition to social psych, I would have to concur - but
- only because my social psych class was taught by Dr. Pyszczynski.
-
- Interestingly, I found that Terror Mgmt. Theory not only encompasses
- a variety of social psych findings (Festinger, Just World, Self-Ver (Swann),
- etc.) but also accounts for some psychoanalytical findings (such as
- and from my own paper, I believe it may explain certain characteristics
- of clinical anomalies, such as self-mutilation and suicide.
-
- Tom comes back from Germany in January - so if anyone would like to
- begin a discussion on this topic - I'd be happy to ask the man at the
- top. He was highly influenced by the work of Ernst Becker, particularly
- Death and Dying, and , oops, can't think of the title off the top of my
- head. He and his co-auths proclaim to have been sitting around one night
- waxing Becker et al. and came up with the original ideafor TMT. He also
- plays in a local reggae band - and is really willing to chat with students.
-
- So, although I am a sword biologician (yes I coined the term myself), I'd
- love to hear comments on TMT on the one non-physio/cognitive topic o
- which I can speak.

- Oh, wait. I also like to chat language development (but that's a whole
- other show).
