- My mother has a retinal tear affecting her central vision. It causes
- her not to be able to read in that eye; although her peripheral vision
- is still intact. She's been told she has lattice degeneration of the
- retina; I was told I had lattice degeneration about five years ago,
- although I have no problems yet.
-
- I am deeply concerned about her eyesight as she is only in her
- early fifties with lots of life left before her; I have just had
- a baby and would like her to be able to enjoy her grandchild and her
- career as a librarian, which would be seriously hindered by a vision
- loss.
-
- Surgery is an option; but how successful is it? Are there any preventative
- things that can be done with lattice degeneration? Does wearing contacts
- exacerbate this problem? I wear contacts and don't want to contribute
- to my degeneration.
-
- Any advice or pointers to advice would be deeply appreciated by this
- worried, exhausted new mom and her mother. I feel like begging for
- help!
-
- I appreciated all the help I received from this group over my pregnancy;
- see misc.kids for a birth announcement/story if interested.
