- I had the EXACT same problem on my '73 bug. My brother owned it before me, and
- he noticed the problem and passed it on to me. It is the transmission main
- bearing(or so I'm told). I left it alone, since that would require a trans
- rebuild. It made driving a little noisy, but I never noticed any problems.
- It is too late to save the bearing if it is making noise, but you may be able
- keep it alive longer with a litle help.

- The first is probably why the bearing is making noise. Park the bus on a level
- place. Check and add gear oil to the tranny. Second, maybe even change the
- oil and add Slick 50 gear treatment or equivalent. While the jury is still out
- on whether Slick 50 products are any good, it certainly can't hurt in your
- case.
