  24. I had the EXACT same problem on my '73 bug.  My brother owned it before me, and
  25. he noticed the problem and passed it on to me.  It is the transmission main
  26. bearing(or so I'm told).  I left it alone, since that would require a trans
  27. rebuild.  It made driving a little noisy, but I never noticed any problems. 
  28. It is too late to save the bearing if it is making noise, but you may be able
  29. keep it alive longer with a litle help.

  31. The first is probably why the bearing is making noise.  Park the bus on a level
  32. place.  Check and add gear oil to the tranny.  Second, maybe even change the
  33. oil and add Slick 50 gear treatment or equivalent.  While the jury is still out
  34. on whether Slick 50 products are any good, it certainly can't hurt in your
  35. case.
