- The new CD ROM Module is now available for MUBBS.
-
- MUBBS is the FreeWare BBS for the Mac, and now you can access CD ROM!
-
- MUBBS *IS* the Ultimate BBS for the Macintosh!
-
- MUBBS is a "Multi User BBS" and is modular.
-
- NOTE: This version (V1.1.2) is for people starting NEW BBS's. All of the
- updates to 6/92 are installed for you. If you already run MUBBS, find the
- update progams and use them on your version.
-
- The BBS is set up to run as-is, but you will probably want to configure
- it however you want.
-
- You can program your own modules, then add them to MUBBS wherever you
- like. You can basically construct your own custom BBS any way you please.
-
- There are several "standard" modules included in the archive like "Files"
- and "E-Mail" and others.
-
- MUBBS can handle up to 32 "lines" (and eats lots of memory when doing
- so).
-
- Xmodem, Zmodem support. CD ROM support. Discussions......
-
- (you know, all the normal BBS stuff, but there are programmers working
- on stuff you will NEVER see on another BBS!)
-
- All SUPPORT applications are included in the archive, including
- "converter" applications to convert userlists and file sections from
- existing BBS programs.
-
- Source code for sample modules is available on the support BBS. You
- should download the accompanying SOURCE CODE file and put it on your BBS
- so that others can program modules for YOUR BBS. Programmers of modules
- are encouraged to release their source code so that others can build "on
- top" of what they have done and then release the "improved upon" source.
-
- The idea is that if everyone writes a module and releases it, you will
- get more and better modules in return !
-
- Since each author of a module supports only a small amount of code
- (normally less then 32K), there isn't any "support hassles" involved.
- Support time may add up to 2 hours a month maximum, so most authors won't
- find it necessary to charge for a module.
-
- MUBBS is meant to be run like a 24 Hr BBS. This means a SEPARATE computer
- turned on all the time. It's not meant to be used part time in the
- background of whatever word processing tasks you are doing. It runs fine
- under MultiFinder, but it's not necessary and you should use single
- finder and save your memory space.
-
- It also works fine under System 7 and has been tested with the new Mac
- Portables. If you can run system 6.0.7 please do. It leaves you with more
- memory and 7 is really not needed.
-
- The minimum configuration I will always shoot for is a Mac Plus with 1
- Meg of RAM. The RAM is what may need increasing in the future.
-
- It runs really good on a Plus, and Mac Plus's are running about $500 used
- currently. If you look around, you can always get a deal and set up your
- BBS properly. I really hate calling a BBS number and find that its not up
- because I called at the wrong time, or even worse; getting a voice on the
- line because it's a voice line during the day.
-
- Configuration of Modules and other Accessories to MUBBS will be done from
- a included program called "MUBBS Tools". Look for updates of MUBBS Tools!
-
- MUBBS is Freeware !
-
- Check for MUBBS at your local "Mac" FTP site!! (look for V1.0 or greater)
