- As the fires died out on the naked body sprawled across the metal
- centrepiece of the plaza, a strange pair of figures considered their positions,
- within the unconcious elf's tortured mind.

-
- Two figures stood facing each other each side of a large chasm, both
- embodiments of the two dominant parts of the elfs mind. One was clad in robes
- of the finest kind and donned in the regalia of a Leader of a Clan. She had a
- smile on her face and a large pair of sword's hung in scabbards at her side.
- The figure almost glowed with health and beamed over the long drop at her rival.
- Behind the figure all stood still and seemed to convey a aura of peace and
- tranquility, except at the top of the chasm where the edge seemed to be
- indistinct and wavering slightly.
- On the other side of the gap sat a slightly smaller figure amongst a
- plethora of writhing bodies. Every now and again she would lean to her side and
- lovingly raise one of the participants towards her. She would look into their
- eyes and then seem to come to a decision. Some were lowered back into the mire
- of degredation that made up Melandra's memories whilst others were neatly
- beheaded and the head thrown into the void below. All around the figure the
- background shimmered and changed with a rapidity that almost defied belief. As
- the figure looked up, it became evident that it was very similar to the woman
- on the other side. The only evident differences were a slightly dishevelled
- cloak and a dull blackness to the eyes that seemed to enclose all that looked
- at her.
- Their eyes met and they regarded each other across the fissure. Within
- an instant had agreed that at this moment they needed each other to keep their
- battle alive and, of course, their host. Sanity would provide the clearness of
- thought that was required whilst her counterpart would be given rein to releash
- fully the baser emotions within body of the elf. The edge of the chasm started
- to shake, and both figures withdrew to a safe distance as a fountain of beings
- and spirits, ideas and raw power flooded outwards and upwards filling in the
- empty void, along with a hideous breathless laugh embodying all that was
- Madness.

- As suddenly as the head had dropped it raised itself and let out a howl
- of pure rage. The eyes turned to show the fires deep within the eyes, that had
- been evident before, now filled the pupils completely. From her mouth came a
- jumble of words and from her fingers came a huge bolt of lightning driven
- onwards by her hatred and aimed at the centre of Fire's back.
- From the Inn's doorway and windows, all that the Rabble could see was
- a corpse that should have been dead, lift its body up and send a searing light
- flashing from its hands towards the large Fire elemental. Some of the more keen
- eyed amongst the crowd gasped as the flash illuminating a stream of molten
- metal flowing from a gaping hole in the side of the Elf's left leg, which
- seemed to be leaning at an unnatural angle.
