- Nope. In my opinion, the best of Tolkien's books was "The Hobbit." I didn't
- care for the others. And as a devoted reader of Pynchon, Burroughs, and
- Joyce, I'd say that I know how to read "literature" (whatever that word
- means).

- As I understand it, JRRT started off as a linguist and went down
- from there. He wanted to use a language that he developed, so he wrote the
- Lord of the Rings.
