- You are absolutely correct that going back tends to be healthy for
- drum corps. What I was disappointed about (and I'm only a little
- disappointed, remember) is that they didn't choose to try, say, one
- new piece.
-
- The main reason why new stuff is a little more appealing to me is that
- drum corps still has a lot of exploration it can do. With the talent level
- of the Madison Scouts, it seems like a small lost opportunity for the
- activity. On the other hand, maybe their show will be totally different
- from a visual point of view, so that new ground may be broken there.
- Who knows.
-
- Finally, whether a show is new and innovative or whether it is a "blast
- from the past", your observations in your last paragraph will still be true.
-
- Let me reiterate: I am still going to listen and watch the Scouts with
- anticipation this year (I didn't see any of the early 80's shows, either).
-
- While we are talking about the Scouts, they are selling Christmas cards.
- On the front of the card is a whimsical drawing of 3 horn players and
- a snare player (along with a parrot playing cymbals while sitting on a
- snowman). On the inside, it just says "Happy Holidays". Anyway, they
- go for $10 + $2 (shipping) (or is it $2.50?) for 20 cards and 20 envelopes.
