  13. The following note contains a summary of the answers to the questions I
  14. asked recently about professional reference staffing.  As of the
  15. time I began summarizing the results, 32 libraries had responded.
  16.  
  17. Total number of hours library is open ranged from a minimum of 65 hours
  18. a week to a maximum of 102.
  19.  
  20. Professional staffing ranged from a minimum of 44 hours a
  21. week to a max of 95 (!) a week.  (The main library at WVU has a
  22. librarian at the desk 77 out of 98 service hours a week.)
  23.  
  24. Average length of weekday shifts at the reference desk was 2.6.
  25.  
  26. Average number of weekend days worked each semester is 3.8
  27.  
  28. Average number of hours at the reference desk each week for
  29. individual librarians was 12.5.
