  25. i think your concept of "miss" and the spanish olympic
  26. committee's concept of "miss" are different.   they were only
  27. concerned that the flaming arrow passed over the tower and
  28. ignite the gas.  it didn't matter if it landed on the tower or not.
  29. the police had cleared a space outside the stadium for the arrow to
  30. land.  they did a short piece on the whole thing here.  i think out
  31. of 70+ practice shots (by more than one archer) only 2 missed and 
  32. those happened on a windy day.

  34. obolympicpeeve1:  yesterday night, a unified team gymnist fell
  35. off the balance beam.  this ruined her chances of continuing on
  36. to the next step - the individual all around title.  on her next
  37. and final rotation, she did the floor exercises.  when she was
  38. done, she came off the floor crying.  this 15 year old girl was
  39. being comforted by her teammates and some camera person kept
  40. moving around to get a close-up of her tear lined face.  i'm
  41. surprised they didn't shove a microphone in her face and ask her
  42. "what went wrong on that balance beam routine?"  they would have
  43. if she was a usan.  as a matter of fact, they did...

  45. obolympicpeeve2:  the news media talking to janet evans after
  46. she came in second, hearing her say she had no regrets about how
  47. the race came out and the media saying how dissapointed she was
  48. that she didn't get the gold.  it seems to me they did this with
  49. another swimmer too, but i can't remember his name.  the media
  50. seems to take all this "we got more medals than you have" stuff
  51. more seriously than some of the athletes.
