- I've been setting-up and using Remote Access Pro 1.11 for a few months, using
- DesqView, 2 ports on a multi-port serial card, 386 with both modems at 9600
- baud.
-
- The software seems to hold up OK, and with not too much difficultly I've been
- able to setup my menus and functionality.
-
- Drawbacks are:
- Group support is lacking; there's no easy way to prevent certain
- groups of users from seeing files (or conversly, to only allow
- certain groups to see certain files). Well, to clarify, you
- are limitted by using the 'security-flags' to control the view
- to 32 groups.. assuming you don't need the flags for other things.
-
- Support from Online Communications is good but limitted; my
- impression is that it's a 1-man staff, maybe 2. When I call
- for support, it has taken from 1 to 5 days before I got a
- response (does this not sound unacceptable?).
-
- The BBS is very flexible, but doesn't have any "magical"
- abilities or features that make it shine.
-
- It's multi-node chat features don't have a full-screen chat
- mode (unless your terminal is calling with EMSI).. even when
- running as a local node.
-
- It doesn't fully utilize the network or DesqView for node
- communication.. it seems like this area needs to be further
- developed.
-
- Anyhow, even with these drawbacks, it seems to work pretty well and
- hasn't crashed yet.. (which I've seen other boards too frequently)..
- so a stable not-too-fancy BBS in my opinion is better than an unstable
- bells-and-whistles BBS.

- P.S. I'm using an ANSI editor called A3E which is dynomite! Worth
- looking at for the US$13 registration fee (also shareware)
- as an alternative to TheDraw.
