  8. Quick Start Guide
  9. =================
  10. After you have installed NetAccelerator and run the program,
  11. the following instructions will help you get started quickly.
  12.  
  13. 1. If your browser is already running, close it before
  14.    starting NetAccelerator.
  15.  
  16. 2. When the main NetAccelerator screen starts, click 
  17.    "Run Internet Explorer" or "Run Netscape Navigator" 
  18.    to start your browser and enhance its performance 
  19.    with NetAccelerator.
  20.  
  21. 3. From the NetAccelerator screen, you can also click 
  22.    "Test Drive" to compare your browser's performance 
  23.    with and without NetAccelerator.
  24.  
  25. 4. You may want to add NetAccelerator to your Startup 
  26.    folder so it opens automatically when you start your 
  27.    system.

  29. Version 1.0 Release Notes
  30. =========================
  31. In this version of NetAccelerator, you must first 
  32. start NetAccelerator and then start your browser. 
  33. NetAccelerator does not automatically recognize your 
  34. browser if you start your browser first. (Use the 
  35. Update button to check our web site regularly for an 
  36. newer release that automatically detects when you 
  37. start your browser.)

  39. If you wish to start your browser automatically when 
  40. you start NetAccelerator, modify your NetAccelerator 
  41. shortcut and add the following command line 
  42. parameter (ensure to insert a space before the /):
  43.  
  44.  For Internet Explorer: /start=I
  45.  
  46.  For Netscape Navigator: /start=N
  47.  
  48.  
  49. Here are basic instructions for modifying a shortcut. 
  50. These instructions assume you accepted the suggested 
  51. default options when you installed NetAccelerator. 
  52. Consult your Windows 95 documentation if you need 
  53. more details.

  55. 1. Close NetAccelerator.
  56.  
  57. 2. In My Computer, open the folder C:\Win95\Start 
  58. Menu\Programs\IMSI.
  59.  
  60. 3. Position your mouse over the NetAccelerator icon 
  61. and click the right mouse button.
  62.  
  63. 4. Choose Properties.
  64.  
  65. 5. Go to the Shortcut tab.
  66.  
  67. 6. Place your mouse at the end of the Target line and 
  68. add either /start=I or /start=N. 
  69.  
  70. 7. Click OK.
  71.  
  72. From now on, your selected browser will start 
  73. automatically when you start NetAccelerator.

  76. Browsers and systems supported
  77. ------------------------------
  78. NetAccelerator 1.0 works reliably with Netscape 
  79. Navigator versions 3.x and Microsoft Internet 
  80. Explorer versions 3.x. NetAccelerator does not 
  81. support Netscape Navigator 2.0. 
  82.  
  83. Support for forthcoming products (such as Netscape 
  84. Communicator or Internet Explorer 4.0) will be added 
  85. as those products are made commercially available.

  87. NetAccelerator 1.0 does not support NT. Please 
  88. continue to visit our web site to read news of more 
  89. fully certified NT-compatible versions.

  91. Performance variation
  92. ---------------------
  93. On different kinds of sites, NetAccelerator 1.0 
  94. performance may vary depending on which browser you 
  95. are using. Pages with frames, for example, will pre-
  96. load more reliably when you use Netscape Navigator 
  97. than they will with Internet Explorer. If performance 
  98. at a site is unsatisfactory, try viewing the site 
  99. using the other browser. For more information on 
  100. factors that affect NetAccelerator performance, see 
  101. the UserÆs Guide.

  103. Netscape Navigator users may experience better 
  104. performance if they increase the size of their disk 
  105. and memory cache (from Netscape Navigator, choose 
  106. Options | Network Preferences | Cache).
