  8. This is the shareware version of ProKon, the metric conversion util-
  9. ity. ProKon is a 32-bit program and is intended to be run on Windows
  10. 95 or Windows NT.  This package should contain the following files.
  11. If it does not, you do not have the complete package and ProKon may 
  12. not operate properly.  Before installation the shareware version con-
  13. tains the following 15 files:

  16.      PROKON.HLP    -  The help file for ProKon.
  17.      CALC._LP      -  The help file for the ProKon calculator.
  18.      FILE_ID.DIZ   -  A description file for online services.

  20.      ELEMENTS._TA  -  Data file for ProKon.
  21.      PROKON._XE    -  More compressed program files.
  22.      UNINPROK._XE  -  More compressed program files.
  23.      INORG._TA     -  Data file for ProKon.
  24.      GAUGE._TA     -  Data file for ProKon.
  25.      CHEMICAL._TF  -  Font file for ProKon.
  26.      CHEMICAL.FOT  -  Font definition file for ProKon.

  31. After installation the shareware version contains 15 files:

  51. There are two ways to install ProKon.  You can use Windows 95 Explorer
  52. to show the files on the distribution diskette and 'double-click' on 
  53. the SETUP.EXE file or you can use the 'Run' menu item in the 'START' 
  54. menu on the Windows Task Bar.  For the second option, enter the 
  55. path to the SETUP.EXE file in the dialog box in the 'Run' window.  
  56. For example, entering
  57.                          A:\SETUP.EXE
  58.  
  59. would run the installation program if you were installing from the 
  60. "A-Drive". SETUP.EXE will copy the necessary files to your hard drive 
  61. and, if you prefer, SETUP will also create the Program Manager group 
  62. along with the necessary icons to run ProKon.
  63.  
  64. NOTE: YOU MUST RUN THE SETUP PROGRAM TO INSTALL PROKON PROPERLY!
  65.  
  66. ProKon can be removed from your system by using the uninstall utility.
  67. When you install ProKon, the program item titled 'Uninstall ProKon' is
  68. automatically installed also.  By running this program item, ProKon
  69. can be removed from your system.  This program (filename = Uninprok.exe)
  70. will attempt to remove all of the program files, the folder containing
  71. the program files, and the program group and program items placed in
  72. the Windows menu system.

  74. Note that if you have a previous version of ProKon installed, you
  75. are not required to uninstall the previous version before you install
  76. the new version.  Simply install the new version to the same location
  77. as the previous version.  The installation program will overwrite the
  78. old files with the new versions of these files.  Installing over the
  79. old version in this manner will retain your current configuration
  80. files for use with your newly installed version.  If you choose to
  81. uninstall the previous version, the existing configuration files will
  82. be deleted and you will be required to reconfigure the software with
  83. the options you desire.

  85. ProKon is capable of making many different conversions, both to and 
  86. from metric and Imperial (English) as well as to and from many ancient 
  87. and archaic units. ProKon is capable of over 350,000 different conver-
  88. sions.  ProKon also gives the density of over 625 different materials, 
  89. some common and some not so common.  In addition, ProKon contains a 
  90. periodic table of the elements which allows access to pertinent data
  91. on each element and notebooks full of useful geometric formulas and
  92. constants.  ProKon has help available throughout and all conversions
  93. can be copied to the Windows clipboard for pasting to other documents.

  95. There is a Windows 3.1 version of ProKon available.  It's called SICon 
  96. and is available most places that ProKon is available.  Both versions 
  97. are capable of the same conversions.

  99. Remember, ShareWare is software you can try before you buy.  You are 
  100. entitled to evaluate ProKon for a period of sixty days.  If you try 
  101. ProKon and decide you like it, you are asked to pay the author the 
  102. registration fee of $16.50 + $3.00 shipping/handling.  You will 
  103. receive the latest version registered in your name.  The registered 
  104. version does not have the advertisement screens you see in the share-
  105. ware version.

  115.                     ShowMe Software License Agreement

  117. 1. Grant of License
  118.  
  119.       a)  This ShowMe Software License Agreement ("License") permits
  120.           the holder of an individual License to use one copy of the
  121.           software program on any single computer, provided the soft-
  122.           ware is in use on only one computer at any time.  If you
  123.           have multiple Licenses for the software, then at any time
  124.           you may have as many copies of the software in use as you
  125.           have Licenses.  A copy of the software is in use when it is
  126.           loaded into memory ("RAM") or when it is loaded onto a per-
  127.           manent memory device such as a hard disk or diskette or other
  128.           similar storage device. It is the user's responsibility to
  129.           ascertain that the number of concurrent users of the software
  130.           will not exceed the number of Licenses.  If a copy of the
  131.           software is loaded onto the hard disk or other storage device
  132.           of a computer that is assigned to one individual, then that
  133.           individual may also use one copy of the software on a port-
  134.           able computer or a home computer.

  136.       b)  This ShowMe Software License Agreement ("License") permits
  137.           the holder of an unlimited site License to use an unlimited
  138.           number of copies of the software on an unlimited number of
  139.           computers at one geographic site.  A geographic site is
  140.           defined as one building or group of buildings that are situ-
  141.           ated on a single contiguous site, said buildings and site
  142.           being owned or leased by a single individual or business
  143.           entity.  If a copy of the software is loaded onto the hard
  144.           disk or other storage device of a computer that is assigned
  145.           to an individual who's place of business or employment is
  146.           located on a geographic site where that business or employer
  147.           holds an unlimited site License, then that individual may also
  148.           use one copy of the software on a portable computer or a home
  149.           computer.

  151. 2. Restrictions

  153.           ShowMe Software and the author stipulate that you may not rent,
  154.           sublease, lease, sell, pledge or otherwise transfer or distri-
  155.           bute the original copy or archival copy of the program. You
  156.           agree not to translate, desassemble, modify, decompile, reverse
  157.           engineer, or create derivative works based on the program or
  158.           any part thereof.  This agreement is automatically terminated
  159.           without notice if any provision of this agreement is breached
  160.           by you.

  164.           This software is owned by ShowMe Software or its suppliers and
  165.           is protected by the United States copyright laws and interna-
  166.           tional treaty provisions.

  169.           You may copy the software for backup purposes, and you may give
  170.           copies of the unregistered version to other individuals, which
  171.           they may also use and copy under the terms of this agreement.

  173.           you must include all of the files distributed with it. The soft-
  174.           ware may not be sold, licensed, or a fee charged for its use.
  175.           If a fee is charged in connection with the unregistered version
  176.           of the software, it must cover the cost of copying or dissemina-
  177.           tion only.  Such charges must be clearly identified as such by
  178.           the originating party.  Under no circumstances may the purchaser
  179.           be given the impression that he is buying the software itself.
  180.           The author encourages BBS operators to post the unregistered
  181.           version of the the software package on their systems for down-
  182.           load by users wishing to evaluate it.  No other reproduction or
  183.           use is authorized without the express prior written consent of
  184.           the copyright owner.

  186. 4. Limited Warranty

  188.         ShowMe Software has attempted to build reasonable safeguards into
  189.         this software. As with any useful computer application, this soft-
  190.         ware may contain errors in the program or documentation. The author
  191.         does not give any warranty, either expressed or implied, to anyone
  192.         using this program other than for the replacement of defective media.
  193.         ShowMe Software does not warrant that your use of this program will
  194.         be uninterrupted or error free. In no event shall the author be 
  195.         liable for any damages, including loss of profits or anticipated
  196.         profits, lost savings, or other incidental or consequential damages
  197.         arising out of the use or inability to use this program.  The program
  198.         comes "as is" and it is the user's responsibility to determine
  199.         whether the program is suitable for his or her computer system and
  200.         software needs. Replacement of the disk(s) containing the program is
  201.         your exclusive remedy and is your sole measure of recoverable damage.
