  4. Please be sure to use the NeoDesk and NeoDesk CLI patch programs, as
  5. appropriate. Then, install the new versions and make sure that they
  6. work properly before installing Geneva.
  7.  
  8. Then, use the automated installation program, INSTALL.PRG. It
  9. automatically ensures that all of the Geneva files end up in their
  10. correct locations.
  11.  
  12. Another important note: if you use the INSTALL.PRG to set up NeoDesk
  13. as the "shell" program: If you also have NeoDesk set to autoboot, you
  14. will end up with two copies running at once. If this is the case, you
  15. should disable Autoboot status using Atari's desktop, or with your
  16. boot-up manager.

  18. Furthermore, if you normally use STARTGEM.PRG to autoexecute a
  19. program, you should know that it is no longer needed. It should be
  20. removed from the AUTO folder. FormDoIt! is also not needed.

  22. IMPORTANT:
  23. ---------

  25.   The following programs have default flags with the "Limit memory" option
  26.   turned on. If you run one of these programs regularly, you may want to
  27.   increase the amount of memory it is allowed to use. Otherwise, you may
  28.   run out of memory at unexpected times:
  29.  
  30.     CALAMUS.PRG         2.5 Mb
  31.     FLASH.PRG           1 Mb
  32.     PGS2.PRG            2 Mb
  33.     TEMPUS*.PRG         1 Mb
  34.     WORDPLUS.PRG        1 Mb
  35.  
  36.   In the case of Calamus, the use of 2.5 Mb assumes that you are using
  37.   Calamus SL. Calamus 1.09 does not require as much memory to run, and you
  38.   can probably reduce this number. Unfortunately, both versions of Calamus
  39.   use the same file name, so it is not possible to have independent flags
  40.   for both versions, unless you rename one of the programs. (Like calling
  41.   the old version CALAMUS1.PRG).

  43. Known incompatibilities (there are a few other minor ones):
  44. ----------------------------------------------------------
  45. o The current version of Geneva will not work correctly with
  46.   Cybercube's CyReL graphics card unless Geneva is run from the auto
  47.   folder.
  48.  
  49. o Will not work with PowerDOS, the Universal Network software, or MiNT.
  50.   These will be addressed in a future version.
  51.  
  52. o WordPerfect has problems with animated mouse shapes. This is cosmetic
  53.   only.
  54.  
  55. o Atari's Extensible Control Panel, XCONTROL, will work properly with
  56.   Geneva, including setting of the window colors, popup menu height,
  57.   etc.  However, you must use version 1.1 or newer of XCONTROL.
  58.   Otherwise, the mouse will tend to remain in the "busy bee" form.
  59.   (Version 1.3 is available on GEnie.)

  61.   One problem with version 1.1, however, is that the main area of the
  62.   XCONTROL window will be too short when displayed in ST High resolution.
  63.   This causes several pixel lines at the bottom of the window to be left
  64.   undrawn. While this can be corrected by using the Task Manager's Window
  65.   Options to increase the gadget border height, it is really only cosmetic.
  66.   This has been fixed for XCONTROL 1.3.
  67.  
  68.   There is also a problem with the BCOLORS.CPX (Background colors) that
  69.   comes with XCONTROL. It only saves one group of settings. This means
  70.   that if you begin in a color resolution, save the settings, and then
  71.   go to a monochrome resolution, BCOLORS will try to set the colors to all
  72.   black! Geneva has code which detects the fact that it is being told to
  73.   use a bad color index, and it ignores the request.

  75. o NeoDesk 3.03 will not work properly with Geneva. You must use version
  76.   3.04 or newer.

  78. o Version 2.1 of the NeoDesk CLI will not execute programs properly.
  79.   Version 2.2 fixes this.

  81. o Unfortunately, the current version of MultiDesk makes an assumption
  82.   that makes it unreliable in a multitasking system. This is not a
  83.   bug; the assumption was quite correct before Geneva came along. In
  84.   any event, you can continue to use MultiDesk, but it is recommended
  85.   that you do so only as a program (not as a desk accessory.)
