"The Best of MIDI Connection(tm)" Volume 1
A NAUTILUS(tm) Compilation
Introduction by Russ Nagy, Contributing Editor
One of the most exciting technological developments for amateur and
professional musicians is MIDI - Musical Instrument Digital Interface - a
communications and hardware standard which enables the transfer of
information between properly equipped musical instruments or between
an instrument and a computer. MIDI has provided a new means to
capture and retrieve musical performance data, sytheziser set-up
information, and more, making it possible for the computer to "play"
music, in much the same manner that player pianos can "play" recorded
performances from paper rolls.
This disc contains MIDI files for hundreds of recorded performances of a
wide variety of compositions. Some are piano works requiring a single
keyboard for realization, some are orchestral pieces designed to be used
with an array of sythesizers or samplers to recreate all of the various
instruments, still others require a drum machine. To take advantage of
this collection of MID files, users must have a basic computer/MIDI
instrument set-up including the appropriate interface and software.
All of the MIDI information on this disc has been recorded in 2 formats:
the popular MasterTracks(tm)/Pro4(tm) (Passport Designs) format, and
"Standard MIDI." It is our hope that your particular software can either
use the the MasterTracks format directly or at least Import the standard
MIDI file and convert it to its own native environment.
"The Best of MIDI Connection" Volume 1 is an annual release from
NAUTILUS, a service of Metatec Corporation.
