1.Introduction
=============
This program is designed to allow you to do a rough
check on whether the tax deductions are correct from
your wages.
IMPORTANT THE SALARY/PAY FIGURE EXPECTED IS THE TOTAL
PAY TO DATE, AND NOT JUST THAT WEEKS PAY.
Should the answer provided come within +/- £3 then
you can assume it is correct. This will take into
account rounding provisions in the manual systems &
any funnies found in the common (PC!) payroll packages.
If you think you have a problem see your wages/salary
person first, if you can't resolve it.Ring your local
tax office.
There is a second file !codes which explains the mystery's
of tax codes.
2.Using the software
======================
Select the tax year to check (94/5 to 98/9 at present).
Enter your total pay to date in the salary box.
Enter your tax code in the tax code box.
Choose whether you're doing a weekly/monthly or
annual check. If doing a weekly/monthly check make
sure you put a month/week in the box.
Note use Inland Revenue months & not calender months,
these are defined for you,off the menu in the main window.
Click on calculate for the program to do its stuff.
3.Restrictions
===============
K codes
---------
This version cannot deal with k codes at present but
hopefully future versions will.
NT (No Tax) codes
-------------------
Because of the nature of these codes it is not possible
to deal with these. You may have had a normal tax code
prior to the NT code in which case tax has been deducted
and will only be repaid (if appropiate) at the end of the
tax year.
Week 1 or Month 1 codes
------------------------
Also known as emergency codes, the program cannot take these
into account because of the nature of when these were issued.
As they are not cummulative they cannot show tax in a year.
You can do a week/month check by putting your pay and code in
and selecting week/month and entering 1 in the week/month box.
You cannot do an annual check.
4.Problems
============
a. This program may not take into account your circumstances
if they are complicated it is best to seek advice and
not use this program.
b. When doing a weekly/monthly check do not use calender
months but Inland Revenue months. Use the calanders
accessed from the menu in the main window.
c. If at the end of the year you have two or more P60's
you can use this program to check your tax by :-
1. Adding your codes together
eg 147T + 149P = 296T (use either letter)
2. Adding your total pay together.
3. Adding your total tax together.
4. Put the total figures into tax check.
Note you cannot do this if one of the codes is a k,0T,NT,BR code.
d. Result is not what you expected. Check that, you have entered
in the correct salary (ie total salary to date)
-check that you have entered the right tax code.
-check that you have set the right week/month.
-check you are using the right year.
