│ SYSUTIL 1.0 - A GT Power Sysop Utility Program │

Overview
========
SYSUTIL is a multipurpose sysop utility program for use on GT Power BBS
Systems. It consists of several programs:
SU.EXE = The main program.
SU_USER.EXE = The user file module of SYSUTIL.
SU_USER may be run from inside SYSUTIL, or from DOS by itself.
Getting started
===============
First, be sure to configure SYSUTIL. Using an ASCII editor, open the
SYSUTIL.CFG file included with this archive. Change the entries on
each line to match the location of those files on your system.
The SYSUTIL.CFG file should be located in either your LANPATH or your
GTPATH. If you don't have a LANPATH, place it in your GTPATH.
Running the program
===================
Here are the options you will encounter when running the program:
┌────────────────────┐
│ Configuration Menu │ Takes you to your ASCII editor and SYSUTIL.CFG.
└────────────────────┘ After you are done editing the configuration
file, SYSUTIL restarts with the new configuration
file.
┌───────────┐
│ DOS Shell │ The DOS shell is a quick way to execute programs
└───────────┘ or commands without having to exit SYSUTIL.
Type EXIT in the DOS shell to return to SYSUTIL.
┌───────────────────┐
│ External Programs │ This is where you can incorporate your favorite
└───────────────────┘ utilities into SYSutil. SYSUTIL will shell out to
the program and allow you to use it the way you
did before.
This is quite useful if you use additional
programs for maintenance of your BBS.
┌───────────────────┐
│ Local Maintenance │
└───────────────────┘
Ansi Edit Starts your ANSI editor.
=========
BBS Screens Displays or edits your BBS screens that callers
=========== will see. You will be able to select between
ANSI or ASCII versions when viewing or editing
screens.
Edit Ascii Starts your ASCII editor.
==========
Index GTMDIR Creates an index of your GTMDIR.BBS file
============ for speedy access to the "Message maintenance"
module below.
** Requires registration to generate index! **
Look at a file Starts your ASCII viewer.
==============
Message maintenance Allows you to edit the last read, last scanned,
=================== and banned flags for your message areas. The
banned flag is set the first time a user enters
an "application" area. It must be cleared for
access to be granted for that area.
There will be a number inside brackets ([])
next to the pathname when this option is used.
That number is simply the amount of messages
in that area.
If you are a registered user of SYSUTIL, you
will be able to index your GTMDIR.BBS file
to speed entry into this option. (see above)
Store log files Allows you to pack up your log files into
=============== an archive.
This can be useful if you need to clear some
disk space. Just archive your logs and trim
them later.
You can configure a list of files that
will be automatically tagged when you
enter this option. See the included
SYSUTIL.CFG for more information.
SYSUTIL will also offer a default file
to compress the logs into of LGmmddyy.ZIP.
If today is 3-12-93, the default would
be LG031293.ZIP.
View log summary Displays a bar chart of BBS usage from your
================ GT.LOG. The chart will "grow" as it reads
data from the log file.
Quit to main menu Returns to SYSUTIL's main menu.
=================
┌───────────────────┐
│ Message Utilities │ Starts a message program of your choice. You can
└───────────────────┘ change the setting in the "Change Configuration"
option in SYSUTIL.
┌──────────────┐
│ Netmail Area │
└──────────────┘
Add Echo Conference Adds a new echomail conference to your system.
===================
This option will create a subdirectory, make
the message control files, and optionally
allow you to enter a "seed" message announcing
your arrival. It will also add the
appropriate lines into your routing
file(s) as well as GTMDIR.BBS if you are not
skipping the echo.
The seed message is named "SUSEED.MSG" and it
is recommended that it be brief as not to
offend any other subscribers.
To ease the search for a source, SYSUTIL has
an option to read an ECHONODE.BBS file which
contains a list of which nodes carry the
echoes you may be looking for.
Find Echo Description Finds line(s) in your echolist that match
===================== a search string you specify. SYSUTIL can
also search a list of echoes that are
not in the main echolist.
Modify Echo Parameters Shows all echoes you carry. After you pick an
====================== echo to modify, you can then edit your GTMDIR
and ROUTING files to change that echo.
You can drop the echo, or change where
you're getting it from. SYSUTIL will send
the .GM and .GQ messages itself.
When you drop an echo, SYSUTIL will
also delete the old bags for that echo to
keep your netmail directories clean.
When changing an echo's source, you
may enter "/" as the source and SYSUTIL
will show you a list of who is carrying
the echo based on the ECHONODE.BBS file.
Network File Editing Starts another menu of choices of files to
==================== edit:
- Nodelist
- Echolist
- Routing
If you include files inside your main
routing file using the $ command,
SYSUTIL will sense them and allow you to
edit them.
Origin Utilities Displays your Origin line as it would look
================ on a message. You also have the option of
editing your Origin line. From there, you
may save your work into SCHEDULE.BBS or leave
it the way it was. If you select the Quit
option and you have not saved your work
in progress, you will be given the chance
to save before exiting.
┌──────────────────┐
│ User Maintenance │ Starts SU_USER.EXE. Please refer to
└──────────────────┘ SU_USER.DOC for more information on
that program.
┌──────────────┐
│ Quit SYSUTIL │ This option closes SYSUTIL and returns to DOS.
└──────────────┘

Special keys
============
- ALT-U from almost any menu in the program will jump
to SU_USER for quick user maintenance when you need it.
Registration
============
SYSUTIL and SU_USER are being distributed as shareware. Basically, it
means that you can "try before you buy" software. After the trial period
(30 days), please register to continue using the software after the trial
period. The programs will not enforce this limit - it's up to you to
keep the spirit of shareware alive. SYSUTIL and SU_USER are not crippled.
Registration speeds program access, by removing delays and other reminders,
and by adding indexing features for certain modules of the program.
┌──────────────────────────────────────┐
│ To register SYSUTIL and/or SU_USER, │
│ the user module, see the included │
│ REGISTER.FRM file for information. │
