Title: The Stac BBS
STACKER NOTE TEC039 - 7/08/92 STAC FAX Index #2508
___________________________________________________________________________
Background.
Stac maintains an Electronic Bulletin Board Service (BBS) in addition to
our other electronic support services. Use your favorite communications
package and modem to gain access to our TechNote and Support File Library,
or to leave your questions with our sysop. Our 2 nodes are on-line 24
hours a day, 7 days a week.
Phone Numbers.
619-431-5956 @ 1200,2400,9600,19.2K and 38.4K BPS.
619-431-7405 @ 1200,2400 and 9600 BPS.
(We're using PCBoard Software and 2 USRobotics Courier HST Dual
Standard modems.)
Data word format.
(N)o parity, (8) data bits, (1) stop bit
Your first time on the BBS.
During your first visit to the Stac BBS, you'll be asked to enter some
background information. One of the things we ask for is a password.
Use any word you like and write it down. You'll be asked for this
password on subsequent visits.
Downloading/Uploading files.
Before uploading or downloading, select the protocol you're going to
use from the Main menu. For example, enter " T C " for Xmodem with
CRC check. (This is the most common protocol.)
To download a file, you must issue the " D<space>filename " command at
the Main menu prompt. For example, to download TechNote 33:
Main Board - Your Command Stacker User? D tec033.doc
Note: With some communications software such as Procomm, you must
then press the Page down key to select your Protocol and
filename. Your communications program may use another key
or key combination.
Uploading is similar. Issue the "U <filename>" command at the Main
menu prompt. With Procomm, you'll then need to press the Page Up
key to select the protocol and filename.
Leaving a message for the Sysop.
The BBS Sysop is here to answer your questions. To leave a message,
enter 'C' at the Main menu prompt. This will put you into an Editor.
After leaving your message, press the Esc key, then 'S' to save.
If you believe you are having a Stacker-related problem, be sure to
upload your SINFO output. Call back 24 hours later to see your answer.

User conferences.
The Stac BBS has 2 public conferences. In Conference 1, "Techinfo",
you'll find our TechNote Library. Conference 2, "Utilities and Tools",
contains Stacker utilities and DOS upgrade batch files. To join a
conference, type J 1 or J 2 at the Main menu.
Connection difficulties with our HST modems.
If you are having connection difficulities with the Stac BBS, check
your modem documentation to see if any special settings are required
to connect with an HST modem. Here are some other things to try:
1. Increase the time that your communication program waits to
connect. Try setting it for a value between 45 and 60 seconds.
2. Lower the baud connect setting to 2400, 1200, or 300.
Please refer to your communication software documentation for more
information on these settings.
