  1. PROCEDURE FOR THE "STICKING SHIFT KEY" PROBLEM

  4. After considerable testing, PC Development determined that the
  5. "Sticking Shift Key" problem "...appears to be either a BIOS or
  6. keyboard problem".  Please assist customers reporting the
  7. problem, by suggesting the steps below:
  8.  
  9. 1) Have the customer rapidly depress one of the Shift keys.
  10.  
  11. 2) If the customer is trying to save, suggest they use the
  12.    Pull-Down Menus.
  13.  
  14. 3) Have the customer try using /NC and/or /NK to start WP.
  15.  
  16. 4) Have the customer try booting vanilla (no other programs running 
  17.    resident in memory).  If booting vanilla helps, have the customer 
  18.    try to narrow the source of the problem.

  20. 5) If the customer is using QEMM, have them try using the IA
  21.    parameter on the QEMM command line.

  24. 6) If the customer is still experiencing the problem after trying
  25.    steps 1-5, they may try downloading the Artisoft utilities from
  26.    our BBS (KBFIX.EXE, KBDFIX.SYS, INT9FIX.EXE, and KBFIX.DOC).  On
  27.    the BBS, the utilities are zipped together under the name
  28.    INT09FIX.ZIP.

  30. The utilities are used separately.  Each must be the first
  31. element in either the .BAT file (.EXE utilities) or the .SYS file
  32. (device=KBDFIX.SYS).  If the problem persists using the utilities
  33. in a normal environment, you should try adding /NC/NK and booting
  34. in a vanilla environment.  (EXAMPLE: Autoexec.bat file with
  35. KBFIX, Config.sys file with files=25, buffers=20).

  37. 7) Have the customer try changing keyboards (only if an extra keyboard is 
  38.    available), to see if the keyboard might have a problem.
