  18. NFC193 is an update to NetWare NFS 1.2C.  It contains both fixes and
  19. enhancements.  NFS193 must be applied only to NFS purchased as 1.20C.  NOT to
  20. NFS 1.20B with NFS153 applied.

  32. CHANGES IMPLEMENTED BY NFS193
  33. =============================
  34.  
  35. Changes to FTPSERV.NLM
  36. ----------------------
  37. Connections are now released when sessions are terminated abnormally.
  38.  
  39. FTP data packets that contain only a Carriage Return <CR> character no longer
  40. close the FTP window.
  41.  
  42. The FTP server no longer abends when a user's attempt to log in would cause
  43. the user's concurrent login restriction to be exceeded.
  44.  
  45. A new parameter in FTPSERV.CFG allows you to specify that the FTPSERV NLM
  46. should stay loaded after it is loaded initially.  In previous versions,
  47. FTPSERV NLM was always unloaded automatically after a period of inactivity. 
  48. See below for specifics on the new IDLE parameter.
  49.  
  50. ASCII files transferred between the NetWare server and Macintosh clients no
  51. longer have a null character (0) inserted after each carriage return.
  52.  
  53. When the FTP server is used as a gateway to a remote NetWare server, it now
  54. logs out the remote connection upon completion of transfers rather than
  55. logging out the local connection.
  56.  
  57. Changes to PLPD.NLM
  58. -------------------
  59. When a very long filename exists in the print queue, the server no longer
  60. abends when users run the "lpq -l" command from remote hosts.
  61.  
  62. Printing from UNIX hosts to NetWare print queues is no longer stopped when the
  63. NetWare account associated with the print job has expired.
  64.  
  65. The PLPD NLM now works correctly with all versions CLIB NLM (3.x,4.x) in
  66. relation to form numbers.
  67.           
  68. When print jobs names sent from UNIX hosts contain a percent sign (%), the
  69. server no longer abends.
  70.  
  71. You can now specify which NetWare volume is used to store temporary print jobs
  72. when they are spooled.  See section 3.2 for information on implementing this
  73. new feature.
  74.  
  75. Changes to LPR_PSRV.NLM
  76. -----------------------
  77. The NetWare-to-UNIX print gateway (LPR gateway) now supports up to 256
  78. printers.
  79.  
  80. Changes to NFSADMIN.NLM
  81. -----------------------
  82. The NetWare-to-UNIX printer gateway now supports up to 256 printers.
  83.  
  84. The NFSADMIN utility now allows file information to be set for directory that
  85. begin with SYS:MAIL, SYS:PUBLIC, and SYS:SYSTEM.  For example, you can set the
  86. file permissions on the directories with names like the following:
  87.    SYS:MAIL15
  88.    SYS:PUBLIC2
  89.    SYS:SYSTEMS
  90.  
  91. The utility still prevents you from changing ownership or permissions on the
  92. SYS:MAIL, SYS:PUBLIC, and SYS:SYSTEM directories.

  94. Changes to LOCKD.NLM
  95. --------------------
  96. The lock daemon no longer returns a failure to UNIX when DOS opens a file
  97. first, and a UNIX host tries to readlock a region of the same file.
  98.  
  99. Changes to NFSSERV.NLM
  100. ----------------------
  101. Exported NFS volumes are now checked when the NFS Server software is loaded.

  103. Changes to PLPDDEF.EXE
  104. ----------------------
  105. NFS193 provides support files that are required by the PLPDDEF utility when it
  106. is run on NetWare 4.01 servers.

  141. Installation Instructions:
  142.  
  143. A. If installation is from floppy disk, give the disk a label of NFS1 and copy
  144. the self extracting file NFS193.EXE to the root of the floppy disk.  
  145. B. If installation is from the server, copy the self extracting file
  146. NFS193.EXE into a subdirectory called NFS1 on any valid NetWare volume.  Type
  147. NFS193 to extract the files.
  148.  
  149. ======================================
  150. Installing NFS193 locally at the server
  151. ======================================
  152. 1. Run UNISTOP to unload NFS.
  153.  
  154. 2. From the server console, type the following command:
  155.         LOAD INSTALL <Enter>
  156.  
  157. 3. At the Install NLM screen, select Product Options.
  158.  
  159. 4. Press <Insert> to add a new product.
  160.  
  161. 5. At the prompt, insert the Upgrade diskette in the disk drive. If the
  162. diskette is not in drive A:, change the drive letter to the correct letter
  163. (NetWare_Volume:NFS1). Then, press <Enter> to start the installation.
  164.  
  165. 6. When installation is complete, Press <Esc> to get to the Main menu.
  166.  
  167. 7. Press <Esc> to exit the Install NLM.
  168.  
  169. 8. Bring down the server by typing the following commands:
  170.       DOWN
  171.       EXIT
  172.  
  173. 9. Restart the server by typing the following command:
  174.       SERVER
  175.  
  176. The NFS193 is now installed on the server.

  179. Installing NFS193 remotely
  180. ==========================
  181. To install NFS193 from a workstation, complete the following steps:
  182.  
  183. 1. Run RCONSOLE.
  184.  
  185. 2. Choose the server you wish to install NFS193 on.
  186.  
  187. 3. Follow steps 1 through 7 above.
  188.  
  189. 4. Exit RCONSOLE and go to server console where NFS193 has been installed.
  190. Bring down the server by typing the following commands:
  191.       DOWN
  192.       EXIT
  193.  
  194. 5. Restart the server by typing the following command:
  195.         SERVER
  196.  
  197. NFS193 is now installed on the server.
  198.  
  199. IMPORTANT CONFIGURATION NOTES
  200. =============================
  201. Important information about configuring NetWare NFS 1.2c after you have
  202. applied NFS193.
  203.  
  204. FTP Server Configuration Options
  205. --------------------------------
  206. NFS193 adds two new configurable options to SYS:\ETC\FTPSERV.CFG.
  207. The options, IDLE and READCANCEL, are described below.
  208.  
  209. IDLE - The value is in the number of minutes that the FTP server waits without
  210. a connection before it unloads itself.
  211.    Minimum value: 1 minute
  212.    Default value: 2 minutes
  213.    Maximum value: 2,880 minutes
  214.  
  215. Notes
  216. -----
  217. 1. If the IDLE option is omitted from the FTPSERV.CFG file, the default value
  218. of 2 minutes is used.
  219.  
  220. 2. If a value of -1 is used for the IDLE  option, the FTP server does not
  221. automatically unload itself.
  222. When this value is used, you must manually unload the server using the
  223. following command:
  224.  
  225.                 UNLOAD FTPSERV.NLM
  226.  
  227. READCANCEL - The value is in the number of minutes the FTP server waits before
  228. timing out when a connection is hung because a PUT operation was terminated
  229. abnormally.
  230.                 Minimum value: 1 minute
  231.                 Default value: 5 minutes
  232.                 Maximum value: 60 minutes
  233.  
  234. Notes
  235. -----
  236. 1. If the READCANCEL option is omitted from the FTPSERV.CFG file, the default
  237. value of 5 minutes is used.
  238.  
  239. 2. When an FTP data connection times out during a read operation, an error
  240. message similar to the following is displayed on the Product Kernel Screen:
  241.  
  242. 04/01/93 14:23:05 FTPSERV-Error:  Failed to receive file from FTP client
  243. host1.
  244.  
  245. PLPD Configuration Option
  246. -------------------------
  247. NFS193 adds a configuration option to SYS:\ETC\NWPARAMS.  
  248. The option, SPOOL_DIRECTORY, allows you to specify the path of the server
  249. directory where temporary spool files are stored.
  250.         
  251. To use the option, place the following two lines in SYS:\ETC\NWPARAMS,
  252. substituting your desired path for <path>.
  253.                 [PRINT_ADMIN]
  254.                 SPOOL_DIRECTORY <path>
  255.  
  256. Example:  To have temporary spool files stored in the \TEMP\SPOOL directory on
  257. a NetWare volume named VOL7, you would create a TEMP directory in the VOL7:
  258. volume, then add the following entries to the NWPARAMS file:
  259.                 [PRINT_ADMIN]
  260.                 SPOOL_DIRECTORY VOL7:\TEMP
  261.  
  262. Notes
  263. -----
  264. 1. If the SPOOL_DIRECTORY option is omitted from the NWPARAMS file,    
  265. SYS:\ETC\SPOOL\SPOOL is used as the default path.
  266.  
  267. 2. When you specify the path for the SPOOL directory, omit the SPOOL directory
  268. itself; the system automatically adds SPOOL to the path that you provide.  For
  269. example, if you specify SYS:ETC\FILES\MINE, the system adds SPOOL to the path
  270. and stores temporary spool files in SYS:\ETC\FILES\MINE\SPOOL.  Note also that
  271. all of the directories you specify in the path already must exist.
  272.  
  273. Deleting NFS193
  274. ---------------
  275. If for some reason, NFS193 must be de-installed, load INSTALL from the server
  276. and choose PRODUCT OPTIONS.  Highlight NFSPTCH and hit delete.  Since the
  277. removal of non-existent serialization information is being attempted, the
  278. following message will appear and should be ignored:
  279.  
  280. Could not remove the serialization information.  But product removal will
  281. continue.
  282.
