  15. ABSTRACT:
  16. This file contains an update to the ISADISK NetWare disk driver.  Included
  17. with this driver are two .DSK files that are included for NetWare v2.15c
  18. and v2.2.  Instructions for the use of the .DSK files are included with
  19. this file.  The driver also allows the user to select a user-definable
  20. drive type during the initial setup of the machine.  Drive types greater
  21. than 127 are also addressed with this driver.

  42. This README file accompanies ISADISK.OBJ for NetWare v2.15 revision c and
  43. NetWare v2.2.
  44.  
  45. Included with this driver are two .DSK files which are included for NetWare
  46. v2.15c and v2.2 and are named accordingly.  Instructions for their use is
  47. included below.
  48.  
  49. Purpose/Problems Addressed
  50.  
  51. 1. On many computers, if the user selects a user-definable drive type
  52. during the initial setup of the machine, the machine BIOS  would place the
  53. ROM PARAMETER TABLE below address segment C800.  Previous revisions of the
  54. ISADISK driver would not recognize the table at this location and ABEND
  55. with the message: IMPROPER ROM PARAMETER TABLE FOR DISK CONTROLLER.  This
  56. revision no longer checks to see if the table is below address C800.
  57.  
  58. 2. This version of ISADISK also addresses the problem with DOS drive types
  59. greater than 127.  Previously, this would set the removable media flag in
  60. the NetWare v2.2 installation. Once the flag is set, customers are not able
  61. to modify volume size or directory entry settings in the File Server
  62. Definition Window.  This driver will now accept drive types greater than
  63. 127 without assuming that they are a removable drive.
  64.  
  65. 3. This driver also includes an earlier fix that corrects a significant
  66. performance drop of the first drive when a second drive is added to a
  67. WD1003 or WD1006 controller (in the drive D position).  This has been known
  68. to occur with the ISADISK.OBJ driver v2.10 and below.
  69.  
  70. 4. This patch corrects problems where excessive noise is emitted from drive
  71. 00.  This noise may be a grinding noise or sound as though the drive is
  72. continually seeking.

  75. To install this version of ISAREM.EXE:
  76.  
  77. For 286 v2.15c, Floppy Installation:
  78. Rename, or archive and delete, the existing ISADISK.OBJ on the working copy
  79. of your DSK_DRV_001 diskette.  Copy the new ISADISK.OBJ onto the working
  80. copy of your DSK_DRV_001 diskette.  Rename, or archive and delete, the
  81. existing ISADISK.DSK on the working copy of your AUXGEN diskette.  Copy the
  82. new ISA215.DSK to the working copy of your AUXGEN diskette as ISADISK.DSK.

  84. For 286 v2.2, Floppy Installation:
  85. Rename, or archive and delete, the existing ISADISK.OBJ on the working copy
  86. of your SYSTEM-2 diskette.  Copy the new ISADISK.OBJ onto the working copy
  87. of your SYSTEM-2 diskette.  Rename, or archive and delete, the existing
  88. ISADISK.DSK on the working copy of your SYSTEM-1 diskette.  Copy the new
  89. ISA22.DSK to the working copy of your SYSTEM-1 diskette as ISADISK.DSK.

  91. To implement this driver:

  93. 1)  For NetWare 2.15c use Netgen -c.  Relink and configure the NetWare
  94. Operating System and File Server Utilities.  Use the Custom installation
  95. path and choose Miscellaneous Maintenance.  Under Misc. Maint. flag Load
  96. Operating System and continue installation.  Reboot the server.

  98. For NetWare v2.2 execute Install.exe and answer "NO" to "Will this machine
  99. be the server?" in the OS Generation window.  Use Install -f.  Press [F10]
  100. at the File Server Definition window and remove all tasks except Load
  101. Operating System in the Actions to be Performed window.  Reboot the
  102. server.
