  3. α─────────────────────────────────────Main Menu
  4.  
  5.      |Med2Go| is a file interconversion utility
  6. for MEDLINE and MEDLINE-like files.  More help
  7. is available after this brief introduction to
  8. using the Help System:
  9.  
  10.      1.  To look through the Help file, you
  11. can press the up & down arrow keys to move one
  12. line at a time.  You can move a "page" at a
  13. time by pressing the PageUp & PageDown keys.
  14. Finally, you can press the Home & End keys to
  15. move to the very beginning or very end of each
  16. help "chapter".
  17.      2.  If you have a Microsoft-compatible
  18. mouse and a mouse driver (Mouse.Com)
  19. installed, you can also use the mouse to move
  20. through this help file.  Click the mouse on
  21. any of the key titles displayed at the bottom
  22. of the Help Window to perform that function;
  23. for example, click the left mouse button on
  24. the word "PgDn" at the bottom of this window,
  25. and Med2Go will scroll down 1 screen at a
  26. time.
  27.      You can also use a mouse at any Med2Go
  28. menu.  The mouse buttons have the following
  29. keyboard equivalents:
  30.          LEFT button = Enter
  31.          RIGHT button = Escape
  32.          BOTH buttons = Help
  33.  
  34.      If you have trouble reading the screen
  35. on a monochrome or laptop computer, you can
  36. start Med2Go with the "/a" switch to turn on
  37. the black & white mode.  That is, start
  38. Med2Go like this:

  41.      Now, some more information on Med2Go:
  42. Med2Go is most useful to clinicians and
  43. biomedical researchers who routinely use
  44. MEDLINE and related file types in their
  45. bibliographic database software.  Med2Go can
  46. be used to convert any of the following file
  47. types [Comma-delimited, MEDLINE, Psyclit,
  48. ERIC, & BRS/Colleague] into either MEDLINE or
  49. comma-delimited files.  This is useful for
  50. importing the files into commercial or
  51. shareware bibliographic database systems,
  52. including JEPRS, the Journal & Editorial
  53. Personal Reference System.
  54.      For more help, exit the Help Window by
  55. pressing Esc, then select one of the Main Menu
  56. items (|F|ile, |C|onversion type, or |D|efaults)
  57. and then press F1 for help.
  58.  
  59. ß────────────────────────────────────File Names
  60.  
  61.      You have 2 choices at this menu:
  62.             |I|nput file  . . . or . . .
  63.             |O|utput file
  64. In order to convert files using Med2Go, you
  65. |must| specify an input filename and an output
  66. filename.
  67.      The |I|nput filename is the name of the
  68. source file that you want to convert.
  69.      The |O|utput filename is the name of the
  70. destination file where you want the converted
  71. data to be sent.
  72.      For example, to convert the file MyFile
  73. to Medline.Out, then enter "MyFile" as the
  74. |I|nput file, and "Medline.Out" as the |O|utput
  75. file.
  76.      You can include Drive and Directory
  77. specifications along with the filename, such
  78. as "C:\Data\Medline.Out".
  79.      The left & right arrow keys can be used
  80. to move around the text you are editing.  You
  81. can also use Home & End to move to the
  82. beginning & end of the line; Ctrl-End to
  83. delete from the cursor to the end of the line;
  84. and Ctrl-RightArrow and Ctrl-LeftArrow to move
  85. around on the line.

  87. Γ──────────────────────────────Conversion Types
  88.  
  89.      At this menu, you can choose either |I|nput
  90. or |O|utput.  After you choose one of those, you
  91. are presented with a further menu.
  92.  
  93.      If you choose |I|nput, the next pop-up menu
  94. will give you several choices:
  95.  
  96.      |C|omma-delimited:  Choose this if your
  97. input file is in comma-delimited format.
  98. Med2Go will then ask you which characters
  99. separate the authors from each other.  Enter
  100. the 1- or 2-characters that separate the
  101. authors.  You will then be asked which charac-
  102. ters separate the keywords.  Again, enter the
  103. 1- or 2-characters that separate them.
  104.  
  105.      |B|RS/Colleague:  Choose this if your
  106. input file is in the BRS/Colleague format.
  107.  
  108.      |E|ric:  Choose this if your input file is
  109. in the ERIC format (CD-ROM).
  110.  
  111.      |M|EDLINE:  Choose this if your input file
  112. is in the MEDLINE format.  This includes such
  113. sources as Grateful Med, PaperChase, and CCOD
  114. (Current Contents on Diskette's MEDLINE/NLM
  115. format).

  117.      |P|syclit:  Choose this if your input file
  118. is in the Psyclit format.
  119.  
  120.      If you choose |O|utput file, then you will
  121. have 2 choices:
  122.  
  123.      |C|omma-delimited:  Choose this if you want
  124. to convert your input file to a comma-
  125. delimited output file.  This would be useful
  126. if you wanted to import your references into
  127. a database system such as dBase III+,
  128. dBase IV, or Paradox.  As above, you will be
  129. asked for the characters that you want to
  130. separate the authors & keywords with.  The
  131. default is "; " (a semi-colon and a space).
  132.  
  133.      |M|EDLINE:  Choose this if you want to
  134. convert your input file to a MEDLINE output
  135. file.  This would be useful to import your
  136. references into a bibliographic database
  137. management system that is capable of recog-
  138. nizing MEDLINE files.  |JEPRS| (the Journal &
  139. Editorial Personal Reference System) is a 
  140. shareware program that is capable of importing
  141. MEDLINE files.

  143. π──────────────────────────────────────Defaults
  144.  
  145.      You have 3 choices at this menu:
  146.  
  147.      |B|eep on/off:  This allows you to turn
  148. Med2Go's warning beep on and off.
  149.  
  150.      |C|olor mode:  Choose "Yes" to allow
  151. Med2Go to display colors on the screen, or
  152. "No" to keep the screen in Black & White mode.
  153. Black & White mode may be easier to read on
  154. monochrome monitors or on portable computers.
  155.  
  156.      |G|oTo DOS:  Choose this option if you
  157. want to |temporarily| go to DOS.  You can, for
  158. example, get a file directory or type a file.
  159. But don't forget to type "Exit" and press
  160. Enter to return to Med2Go!
