Load Catalog: This routine will cause a new catalog to be loaded into memory, this operation must be performed before any other
commands in FBNCAT can be used. FBNCAT will search the current directory for the requested catalog then search all the directories on the "PATH". If the catalog still is not located
Dskcat assumes it to be a new catalog for the current directory.
Save Catalog: This command will save the current catalog back to disk, in its original location.
Exit FBNCAT: This comand will cause diskcat to exit. If the current catalog has been modified and not saved you will be give the opportunityto do so. <Alt-F10> may also be used from anywhere in Dskcat to exit.

Update

Load Catalog
FBNCAT is requesting the name of the catalog to loaded. Enter the name (8 Char. Max) with no extension or press the <INS> key and a list of all of the catalogs in the current directory will be displayed. To select a catalog from the list move the cursor bar to the desired name and press <Enter> twice.
Read Disks From
Type the drive letter from which FBNCAT is to read disks to be cataloged. Any valid drive letter for your system, including hard disks is acceptable.
Read Target Disk
At this point FBNCAT is prepared to read the target disk. If you wish another disk to be read and cataloged press <Enter>. If you wish to terminate the cataloging procedure at this point, move the cursor bar to NO and press <Enter> or simply press <ESC>.
Edit File Comments
Move the cursor bar to the file name you wish to edit, and press <Enter>. A dialog box will appear requesting entry of the file catagory (5 Char. max). Enter any combination meaningful to you, and press <Enter>, a second dialog box will appear to edit up to 35 characters of description.
Edit Disk Comments
Move the cursor bar to the disk name to be edited and press <Enter>, a dialog box will appear requesting entry of a disk type (5 Char. max). Enter any combination of characters you wish and press <Enter>. A second dialog box will appear to allow entry of up to 35 characters of comments describing this disk.
Edit Catalog Comments
Enter up to 35 characters of comments describing the contents of the current catalog. This description will be displayed in the catalog status report.
Sort Files
Move the cursor bar to the line in the menu that contains the desired sort sequence and press <Enter>.
Delete Files
Move the cursor bar to the disk name to be deleted, and press <F5>. Move the cursor bar to the next disk to be deleted and repeat procedure until all disks to be deleted have been "marked". When all disks have been selected, press <Enter> to delete the disks and their associated files. If you change your mind prior to pressing <Enter> hit <ESC> to abort the delete procedure.
Display Routines
All display routines with the exception of the "Display Catalog Status" function essentially the same. The <PgUp>, <PgDn>, <Home>, <End> and <
> are used to scroll through the lists. When you have finished viewing the display press <ESC> to return to the Main Menu.
File Search
Move the cursor bar to the type of search desired and press <Enter>. Five types of search are supported:
File Name: The search will take place on file name, wild cards may be used.
Keyword: Search Comments field by keyword.
Disk Name: The name of the parent disk will be used for selection.
Category: The file category entered under "Edit File Comments" command are used for selection.
Date: The file date of last update is used for selection.
Name Search
Enter the file name for which the search is to be made. The file name may contain the wild card characters "*", "?" at any point in the name. The same rules governing a DOS wildcard search apply to this search function as well.
Disk Search
At this point you have two choices, enter the disk name with wildcards if you wish and press enter to start the search. You may also press the <INS> key and a list of all of the disk names in the catalog will be displayed. Move the cursor bar to the desired disk name and press enter twice.
Category Search
Enter the catagory type you wish to search for and press <Enter>. Wildcards are acceptable.
Date Search
Two dates are required. A beginning date, and an ending date in the form MMDDYY. The dates must be entered as 6 numeric digits. When entering the second date, you may respond with <Enter>, and FBNCAT will use the first date as the ending date. If you enter an ending date, it must be higher than the beginning date.
Label Select
Move the cursor bar to the first disk name to be selected and press <F5>. Move the cursor bar the next disk to be selected and repeat the procedure untill all disks have been selected. Press <Enter> to print the labels, press <ESC> to abort.
Volume Label
No volume label has been found on the disk to be cataloged. FBNCAT is requesting a volume name to be placed on the target disk. Enter any name you wish up to 11 char. max. and press <Enter>. FBNCAT will label the disk and proceed with the processing of the target disk.
**NOTE- Be careful not to use a name that already exists in the current catalog. This will cause the new disk to replace the one in the catalog.
Catalog Save Check
If you wish to save the current catalog to disk respond with YES, otherwise press NO. This message usually results due to a program exit request and the current catalog has been modified and not saved.
Save Catalog As
FBNCAT is giving you the chance to verify the name under which you wish to save the current catalog. The current name and path are shown. If these are acceptable simply press <Enter>, otherwise change the name and <Enter>
Confirm Overwrite
A catalog is being saved and a catalog with the same name already exists in the the target directory. This is normaly a previous version of the catalog being saved. Select YES to save, NO to abort the save command.
Edit Disk Comments
Enter/Edit disk type and comments for each disk in the current catalog.
Display Disk Comments
A display of each disk in the current directory showing disk type and user comments.
Print Output Selection
Indicate where you would like FBNCAT to direct the print output. Choices are to printer or a disk file. If you select a disk file FBNCAT will request a name to be used. If the file already exists in the current directory, the reports produced will be appended to the current file.
Print File
FBNCAT is requesting the name of a file to be used for print output. Any dos file name is acceptable. If you simply press enter without typing anything, the program will use the default name FBNCAT.PRT. If the file does not exist in the current directory, it will be created. If it DOES exist, the output from the current request will be appended to the file.
Select Label Size
Select label size. FBNCAT will print labels for 5 1/4" and 3 1/2" disks. You need to select the type you wish to print. Simply move the cursor bar to the type you wish to print and press <ENTER>.
Keyword Search
FBNCAT is requesting the keyword for the search. This can be any combination of characters up to 20 characters in length. FBNCAT will perform a case insensitive search on the comments field of each file in the catalog. A display or printed report will be produced listing all files found.
FBNCAT Configuration Help
FBNCAT Print Driver Help
Listed on this screen are the commands that FBNCAT uses to control your printer. Please refer to your printer's manual to determine the required command sequences. The commands are entered as decimal numbers seperated by commas. For example: For an Epson Fx type printer the command to turn on BOLD Printing is (ESC G ) with the ASCII decimal numbers being entered as (27,71). Please refer to your FBNCAT manual for more information on print driver generation.
FBNCFG HELP
FBNCFG is a support program for FBNCAT. With FBNCFG you setup and modify the configuration for FBNCAT, set color options, tailor your own print drivers to support your particular printer, and print the FBNCAT documentation.
To perform any of the FBNCFG functions simply move the cursor to the desired function and press <ENTER>. Below is a descriptin of the FBNCFG functions:
1. FBNCAT Configuration: This selection creates and modifies the FBNCAT configuration file (FBNCAT.CFG). The first time you run FBNCFG this file will not exist. FBNCFG will assume some defaults for your configuration and these will be shown when the configuration screen is displayed. The configuration file must be present for FBNCAT to execute.

2. Screen Color Setup: You may set up FBNCAT's screen colors to suit your own tastes. FBNCFG will present a list of screen types (Normal Text, Help Messages, etc.) and you may change these color combinations to anything you like. Please refer to the documentation for more information on setting color options.
3. Print Driver Configuration: FBNCAT is delivered with two print drivers. (EpsonFX, HPLaser) You may also create your own print drivers using this function. Please refer to the documentation for details on print driver generation.
4. Print FBNCAT Documentation: This function will print the supplied FBNCAT documentation on your printer. Please be sure that your printer is powered on and ready before selecting this function.
5. Exit FBNCFG: Select this item to exit FBNCFG.

Default Drive
This is the disk drive to be used most often when cataloging disks. This will be the drive assumed by FBNCAT. You will however, have the opportunity to change this at the time you start the cataloging process
Screen Type
Set this field to either Black & White or Color depending on the type of screen you have. You can enter either a "B" for B & W or "C" for color, or use the left and right arrow keys to toggle between the choices.
Snow Control
Some older CGA adaptors will produce a snowy screen if the information is written to the video buffer too quickly. If you experience this problem with your adaptor set this field to "Y", otherwise leave it set to "N".
Printer Address
Please enter the address associated with the printer you wish FBNCAT to use. Possible choices are LPT1-LPTn or PRN1-PRNn. As long as it is a valid logical address with a physical printer attached.
Printer Driver
Please specify the print driver for your printer. FBNCAT comes with two drivers:
HPLASER- for HP Laserjet series II
EPSONFX- for Epson printers, Nec P6, and compatables.
If these will not work with your printer, you may set up your own through the Print Driver option of this program.
Expand Archives
If you wish FBNCAT to keep track of, and display the contents of archive files select "Y". The archive types supported are ARC, PAK, ZIP, LZH. The archive must have one of these extensions and be a valid format for the extension type. FBNCAT will not detect self extracting archives.
Catalog Directory
Enter the fully qualified path name for the directory that will contain the catalogs. FBNCFG will check to see if this directory exists.
