SamfB - The Morse Code Program
Copyright (C) 1988
Tranzoa, Co.
P.O. Box 911
Maple Valley, WA 98038
-----------------------------------------------------------------
SAMFB
-----------------------------------------------------------------
SamfB helps you learn to "key" and "copy" Morse code.
SamfB runs on an IBM-PC or clone with at least 160k of
program memory.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
FILES
-----------------------------------------------------------------
The SamfB "shareware" package consists of the following
files:
&READ.ME This file.
SAMFB.EXE The SamfB program.
SAMFB.HLP The on-line, context sensitive help file.
SAMFB.SCR The front page screen image file.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
SamfB creates the file "SAMFB.CFG" when you stop the program
with ALT X. This file stores SamfB's configurable options,
including screen type, colors, windowing and sound attributes,
program operation mode, and operator experience.
SamfB may also create the file, "OPPRINT.PCF" to store
printer characteristics.
Print-outs to files always go to the file, "SAMFB.PRN".
-----------------------------------------------------------------
QUICK-START
-----------------------------------------------------------------
If you have no experience with SamfB, do this:
---> Make sure that you DO NOT have a file named SAMFB.CFG
in your current directory or in your PATH.
---> Make sure that you DO have the file SAMFB.HLP in your
current directory or in your PATH.
---> Run SamfB from the DOS command line.
---> If you've a two-color monitor on a color adapter (CGA,
EGA, for example), you may want to tell SamfB so. When SamfB
first starts, press ALT F10. This will "pop-up" a service called
the "colorizer." Repeatedly pressing SPACE-BAR to the colorizer
will cycle between the four possible "color sets." Find the one
you prefer, and strike the RETURN/ENTER key to make it permanent.
---> If SamfB does not find SAMFB.CFG, then you'll be put
into the Help System immediately. You can read whatever you want
in the help system. When you want to get going with the program,
press the ESC key. You'll be put into the Menu System.
Specifically, you'll be able to choose which of six "modes" you
want to start with. Choose one and press ENTER. SamfB will
put you back into the Help System to explain the mode. Read it,
ESCape out of it, and - finally - you're on your own.
---> Enjoy the program. Remember that it got written as an
accident. It was supposed to be a file card/address book
program!

SOURCE CODE
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Complete source code for SamfB is available for only $49.
This source code includes more than 300 public C routines in
more than 100 source code files. It also includes assembly
language modules for high-speed screen I/O, hardware and BIOS
access, sub-micro-second timing routine, multi-tasking, and
a multi-port, interrupt-driven, RS-232 serial port driver.
The source code includes SK, a skeleton program that SamfB
was built from. SK includes "canned" code that handles "Look and
feel", "DOS operations", printer logic, menu and help system
handlers, and code to handle configuration and data files.
SamfB is currently compiled and linked using Borland's Turbo
C on a 384k PC with a 10 megabyte hard disk. Assembly modules
are assembled with Microsoft's MASM 4.0.
The source code comes on 5 1/4 inch, low-density diskettes.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Please support the development of SamfB and its underlying
system by ordering your own, private copy of the program on a 5
1/4 inch, low density diskette. Send $20 to:
Tranzoa, Co.
P.O. Box 911
Maple Valley, WA 98038
Your own copy of SamfB will print your own name instead of
Tranzoa's. Be sure to include the name you want with your order.
Feel free to copy SamfB. Give it to your friends.
Don't sell SamfB or include it with a product sold for more
than $10 without written permission from Tranzoa.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
SamfB OVERVIEW
-----------------------------------------------------------------
SamfB has 4 logical sections that you can be "in":
1) The main screen.
2) The menu system.
3) The help system.
4) The colorizer.
You're "in" the MAIN SCREEN - the 2nd through 24th lines on
the screen - when you see a cursor or a black main screen, and
are sending or receiving Morse code. In the main screen you can
be "in" one of six different "modes." Use each mode to do
different things. Use the "Free keying" mode, for instance, to
send Morse code to SamfB. Use the "Practice copying" mode, for
instance to practice recognizing Morse code when SamfB sends it
to you.
You choose which mode you are in by selecting one of them
from a menu.
You control SamfB through the MENU SYSTEM. SamfB's menu
system may be a familiar style to you. The menus drop down from
a horizontal, top menu. You move a highlighted scroll-bar with
the arrow keys, select a menu item with ENTER, and get out of
whatever mess you've gotten into with the ESC (escape) key.
From the main screen, you get the menus by pressing the
ESCape key.
The HELP SYSTEM is always available. You get "into" it by
pressing Function Key 1 ( F1 ). The help system is text file
with "frames" that pop up in windows. Most have an associated
menu that lets you choose another "frame" to read. You can
always use the PgUp and PgDn keys to move between frames, too.
SamfB can print the entire help file in a readable, paginated
form.
The COLORIZER is the program author's son's favorite toy.
It is always available at the touch of ALT F10. It's serious
purpose is to let you adjust SamfB so that the screen looks good
to you. Less seriously, it lets you leave your machine at night
with a very, very flashy look.
