  28.           Master Meal Manager was designed to be fast and easy to use. With
  29.           it  you  can  manage  your  recipes,  automatically  create  meal
  30.           schedules, and  produce shopping  lists. Master Meal  Manager has
  31.           the following features:

  33.           Recipe File Manager
  34.  
  35.           =>   A recipe file  which will  contain up to  500 recipes.  Each
  36.                recipe can have the following information:

  38.                *    A name up to 20 characters long. 
  39.  
  40.                *    The types  of meals it  is used in.  (Breakfast, Lunch,
  41.                     Supper) 
  42.  
  43.                *    The types of  dishes it can be.  (Beverage, Main, Side,
  44.                     Dessert)
  45.  
  46.                *    A  30 character  category  field used  to organize  the
  47.                     recipes. 
  48.  
  49.                *    The number of servings the recipe makes. 
  50.  
  51.                *    Up  to 12  ingredients  each defined  by the  quantity,
  52.                     measurement, and name.

  54.                *    Up to 9 lines of text for instructions, each line being
  55.                     70 characters long.

  64.                a recipe card.

  68.           Automatic Meal Scheduler

  70.           =>   An  automatic meal  scheduling capability  which  plans what
  71.                recipes to  have each day  for up to  14 days. The  schedule
  72.                contains the  day of the week  and the date for  each day in
  73.                the     schedule.  Each  day  is  broken  up  into  3  meals
  74.                (breakfast, lunch, and supper)  with each meal containing up
  75.                to  2 beverages,  2  main  dishes,  5  side  dishes,  and  2
  76.                desserts.

  78.           =>   The capability to edit  and print the meal schedule  once it
  79.                is created.

  81.           =>   The capability of showing each day's schedule on the screen.
  82.                All meals  and dishes are  shown on the  screen as they  are

  88.                schedule.  The  shopping list  maybe  edited  on screen  and
  89.                printed out.

  94.                The program can  be told to look anywhere on your system for
  95.                the files it uses. It can also be told how many servings are
  96.                needed for each meal and dish. The number of dishes for each
  97.                meal  can also be  changed for personal  tastes. The program
  98.                can  be  told  how to  control  your  printer  to print  the
  99.                recipes, meal schedule and shopping list.

  121.           Getting Started

  123.           There  really is  nothing complicated  about getting  Master Meal
  124.           Manager  running, but there are  some things that  should be made
  125.           clear.

  128.           What You Need

  130.           In order to run properly, Master Meal Manager needs...
  131.  
  132.                =>   an IBM PC, XT, AT or any close compatible with at least
  133.                     one 5.25" 360K floppy drive.
  134.  
  135.                =>   at least 512K of available memory.
  136.  
  137.                =>   MS-DOS or PC-DOS version 2.0 or greater. 
  138.  
  139.                =>   80 column by 25 line monitor (Monochrome or Color).
  140.  
  141.                =>   a printer capable of printing  10 and 17 Characters Per
  142.                     Inch (CPI); 6 and 8 Lines Per Inch (LPI).

  144.                =>   The Master Meal Manager Distribution Disk
  145.

  147.           Making Working Copies
  148.  
  149.           I would highly recommend making a working copy of the Master Meal
  150.           Manager disk  and then  put the  original away  in  a safe  place
  151.           BEFORE actually beginning to use Master Meal Manager. Master Meal
  152.           Manager  will not  work properly  in the  form received  from the
  153.           distributor.

  155.           Single Floppy Drive
  156.  
  157.           When you make your working disk, follow these steps:
  158.  
  159.                NOTE:
  160.                The <== symbol means to press the RETURN key.

  162.                1    Format a floppy with DOS on it by typing:
  163.                          FORMAT A: /S <==

  165.                2    Create a  file  on it  with  the name  AUTOEXEC.BAT  by
  166.                     typing:

  180.                3    Now  press the F6 key and RETURN to finish entering the
  181.                     commands.

  183.                4    Copy  MMM.EXE and RECIPE.DAT  from your original Master
  184.                     Meal Manager disk to the working disk you just made.

  188.           You now have  a bootable  disk which will  automatically come  up
  189.           with Master Meal Manager running. Using  Master Meal Manager this
  190.           way, the number of recipes you  can have in your recipe file will
  191.           be  limited to about  200. This is  due to the  program and other
  192.           files on the disk taking up much of the space on the disk.

  194.           Dual Floppy Drives
  195.  
  196.           If you have  two floppy disk drives you can  have a larger recipe
  197.           file (about  300 recipes) if you put the data files on a separate
  198.           floppy disk. To do this do the following:
  199.  
  200.                1         Format one floppy  with DOS on it mark  it "Master
  201.                          Meal Manager WORKING DISK".

  204.                2         Format another  floppy without DOS on  it and mark
  205.                          it "Master Meal Manager DATA DISK".

  208.                3         Put  the floppy  marked "WORKING  DISK" in  the A:
  209.                          drive.

  211.                4         Create  the AUTOEXEC.BAT file  on the  floppy with
  212.                          DOS on it  as described  above in step  2 for  the
  213.                          single floppy instructions.
  214.  
  215.                5         Put the distribution disk in the B: drive and copy
  216.                          MMM.EXE from it to the "WORKING DISK".

  219.                6         Put the floppy marked "DATA DISK" in the A: drive.

  221.                7         Copy  RECIPE.DAT from the  distribution disk still
  222.                          in drive B: to this disk.

  231.                8         Put the  floppy marked "WORKING DISK"  back in the
  232.                          A: drive.

  234.                9         Put the floppy marked "DATA DISK" in the B: drive.

  236.                10        Make the A drive the default drive by typing:

  239.                11        Start up Master Meal Manager by typing:

  242.                12        Change  the  default  data drive  in  Master  Meal
  243.                          Manager  by selecting  the CONFIG option  and then
  244.                          the PROGRAM option. Then  enter "B:\" in the "DATA
  245.                          PATH" field. For  details on how  to do this,  see
  246.                          the chapter on CONFIGURATION MANAGER.

  248.           Hard Disk Drive
  249.  
  250.           For a hard disk, you should begin by setting up a subdirectory to
  251.           contain the Master Meal Manager files. You can name this anything
  252.           you wish. Once that is  done just copy all the files  over to the
  253.           subdirectory from the  floppy. Master Meal Manager  is started by
  254.           typing  MMM  or  putting that  command  into  a  batch file.  For
  255.           example...

  257.           Create  the  subdirectory  and  copy  the  files  by  typing  the
  258.           following:

  287.           PRINTING THE MANUAL

  289.           I  recommend  you  print out  the  users  guide  provided on  the
  290.           distribution disk.  It explains how  to use Master  Meal Manager.

  335.           C O N V E R T I N G   T H E   O L D   R E C I P E   F I L E

  338.           If you  have recipes from Meal  Master 1.4, you will  need to run
  339.           the  CONVERT.EXE program to change  the format of  the old recipe
  340.           file to the format needed by Master Meal Manager 1.51. 
  341.  
  342.           CONVERT will read all  the old recipes, copy the  information you
  343.           had in them and rewrite it back to a new recipe file. This recipe
  344.           will have the same name (RECIPE.DAT) as the old. 
  345.  
  346.                                  I M P O R T A N T !!!!
  347.  
  348.                ONCE CONVERT BEGINS,  THE INFORMATION WILL NOT  BE USABLE BY
  349.                MEAL MASTER  1.4. MAKE SURE YOU  MAKE A BACKUP  COPY OF THIS
  350.                FILE BEFORE PROCEEDING IF IT IS IMPORTANT TO KEEP THE RECIPE
  351.                FILE IN THE OLD FORMAT.

  354.           Once  you  are  ready  to   begin  the  conversion,  just   enter
  355.           CONVERT<RETURN> to start. The program will guide you through  the
  356.           process.
