VIDEOCAT 7.2 & VCATWIN 7.2W Information for ASP-Approved Disk Vendors
I am submitting VIDEOCAT (Version 7.2) and VCATWIN (Version 7.2W) to
ASP approved disk vendors for distribution consideration. I have taken
some care to include in this bulletin all of the information which most
disk vendors need to evaluate and catalog a program. I don't mean to be
prickly, but if you send me a form to fill out which requests the same
information, chances are I will ignore it. Enclosed is a diskette which
includes the self-extracting compressed files VCSTD72.EXE and VCWIN72.EXE,
which contain the two programs, each with its own user manual and
demonstraion data file. These programs are intended to be distributed
together on a single disk; a single registration covers use of both
programs.
Short description:
Catalog videocassette collections; standard and Windows versions.
Longer description:
"VIDEOCAT" is a fully featured program for cataloging videocassettes;
designed for serious collectors and large collections. The size of
the data file is limited only by available disk space. "VCATWIN" is a
Windows version of VIDEOCAT. Both fixed information fields and free-
form text comment area in each record. Classification categories can
be custom configured by the user for specialized collections. Add,
change, delete and search functions; screen and printer output
options; label printing for an extensive variety of label formats;
statistical reports; hard copy catalog printouts in title, year or
cassette number sequence. VIDEOCAT is a Family API which runs under
either DOS real mode or OS/2 protected mode. VIDEOCAT is memory-
intensive, may conflict with some TSR's. VCATWIN runs under Microsoft
Windows, Version 3.0 or later, and has no known conflicts. Self-
extracting compressed files containing both programs are distributed
on a single diskette; author request a single registration fee of $20
for both programs.
Catalog categories, key words:
VIDEOCAT, VCATWIN, VIDEOCASSETTE, MOVIE, VCR, CATALOG, DATABASE,
COLLECTORS, HOBBY, ELECTRONIC ENTERTAINMENT, HOME ENTERTAINMENT,
DOS, OS/2, WINDOWS, ASP, SHAREWARE.
System requirements:
Minimum: 256k, monochrome monitor, 1 floppy drive,
DOS 2.10 or later.
Recommended: 640k, color monitor, hard drive, standard
printer.
Special support for: OS/2, HP-compatible laser printer.
Windows edition: Microsoft Windows 3.0, mouse, and EGA or VGA
required.
Known Incompatibilities:
DOS: Some users who load many TSR's (shells, pop-ups,
etc.) report conflicts.
OS/2: No problems reported.
WINDOWS: No problems reported.
What's new:
Version 7.2 comes with VCATWIN 7.2W, a data-file-compatible Windows
edition of Videocat. The standard edition of Videocat features
increased options for user-customization.
Registration:
$20. Technical support via mail or Compuserve E-mail. Registered
users get next major update without additional charge. Complete C
source code (for standard edition only) available to registered users
on request.
Comparative Advantages:
VIDEOCAT and VCATWIN are designed for SERIOUS collectors with LARGE
collections. Typical comments which I recive are: "I was using
another program and it worked fine until I entered the 100th record,
then it crashed"; and "I tried out a lot of different programs and
yours was the only one which did everything I wanted". All of the
other programs I have seen are standard DOS programs. As far as I
know, only VIDEOCAT will also run in protected mode under OS/2.
VCATWIN now offers the option of a Windows version with complete
portability of data files from the standard edition. The programs are
relatively easy to learn and come with a demonstration data file which
permits the new user to immediately check out all features
