The Beer Bar at the Union's main site in St Mary's Place has a range of continental and bottled lagers and 18 different beers on tap.[PARA][BOLD]Theatres:[EBOLD] There's an immense selection of thespian goings on going on (mostly in the Union Theatre, cap 600) and every student is automatically a member of the Mermaids University Dramatic Society which has recently performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, the National Student Drama Festival and the Scottish Drama Festival. There are also co-operative drama groups, [ITAL]which can be quite lucrative[EITAL]. The St Andrews Festival (or Scotland's Winter Festival) was set up and is run by students, every 2 years.[PARA][BOLD]Clubs/discos:[EBOLD] The city doesn't have any real nightclubs and so the Union's Megabop and Alternative Disco (adm ú1.50) in the Union Theatre do wonders for local relations.[PARA][BOLD]Music venues:[EBOLD] When the Union Theatre isn't being used for discos, plays or whatever, it's often used for music, including ceilidhs.[PARA][BOLD]Recent band appearances:[EBOLD] The Farm, James, Runrig.[PARA][BOLD]Others:[EBOLD] These posh student types love their balls - the black tie variety - and so they have about 10 a term.[HDNG]EATING OUT:[EHDNG][PARA]The Union feeds the faces of starving students in the restaurant and coffee bar. There's competition from local cafes, restaurants and fast food. [ITAL]Considering the city's size, the quality and range is impressive. [EITAL] The tourists gobble the wares of many tea shops and pubs. Fast food and pizzas are available till about midnight[ITAL], but (apart from an all-night bakery off South St, and the inevitable garages) looking for food after that is as easy as searching for dodo cutlets. Recommended: Ziggy's (burgers), Route 66 (more burgers), Brambles (veggie), Vine Leaf (French), The Grange (European), Babur's (Indian, 1/2 price for students).[EITAL]
