It's not a particularly political union, excepting some [PARA]concern for Welsh national politics.[EITAL] Affiliated to the Guild is the [PARA]Welsh Union, which charges a ú5 membership fee. [ITAL]However, [PARA]there's no real ethnic hostility; [EITAL]there are nearly as many students [PARA]from South East England as there are from Wales. And only 1 [PARA]in 7 students speak Welsh.[HDNG]GUILD FACILITIES:[EHDNG][PARA]The Guild has[ITAL] excellent services for a university this small[EITAL]. [PARA]There's a cafe; travel agency; 2nd hand bookshops; print shop; [PARA]Midland bank; games machines; translation services and a [PARA]general shop for stationery, sweets, and so on. There's also a [PARA]building at Llanbadarn, with a bar, shop, common room and [PARA]refectory.[HDNG]CLUBS (NON SPORTING):[EHDNG][PARA]Debating; Fantasy; Hellenic; Pagan; Plaid Cymru; War Games.[HDNG]OTHER ORGANISATIONS:[EHDNG][PARA]Aber's charity Rag is the biggest in Europe. Last year, they [PARA]raised a [ITAL]stonking [EITAL]ú354,000, but then, they do have 4 minibuses [PARA]which shoot off round the country 2 or 3 times a week to hassle [PARA]strangers for cash. 'The Courier' is Aber's student newspaper [PARA]and the Guild produces a fortnightly bulletin. Students also play a [PARA]big part in the Local Hospital Radio, and Community Action is [PARA]taking off big time.[HDNG]RELIGIOUS:[EHDNG][PARA]The town has churches for most Christian denominations. The [PARA]college has its own chapel.[HDNG]PAID WORK:[EHDNG][PARA]Somewhere as small as Aberystwyth can't provide jobs for [PARA]5,000 students, but things improve in the summer, when the [PARA]tourists move in.[PARA][PARA]
