General rules:
* Write the letter in a tone that will set the pace for
your relationship with the employee--friendly,
official, etc.
* Detail every important aspect of the job: supervisor,
title, wages, probationary period, noncompetition
and trade secret provisions, bonus provisions, stock
options.
* If the letter is the formal notification of the
offer, include the terms by which the employee should
accept the offer. If the letter is confirmation of a
previous verbal offer, so state.
* If the letter is to be your official employment
agreement, have the employee sign it. File a copy
with your attorney and keep a copy for your personnel
files.

of [clerical assistant] for our company.
The position pays [$7.30 per hour], paid [every other
Friday]. [Jody Smith, our head administrative assistant],
will be your supervisor. After 12 months employment you will
be be eligible for [one week] paid vacation.
All our employees serve a three-month probationary
period at the beginning of their employment. During
probation, you will not participate in benefit programs and
