  38.    What most people think of as a good sense of direction is usually
  39. either (A) An aquired skill, perhaps appearing effortless due to
  40. competency   (B) Familiarity with the area. Knowledge of a
  41. particular locality becomes less and less valuable the further you
  42. travel, in the forest or the city.  However, being able to find your
  43. way by understanding a map and compass, or at least the use of
  44. bearings, angles, and degrees will cover any circumstance.  You
  45. "carry a map in your head" by noting landmarks and other natural
  46. factors, and then knowing that travel from any one point to another
  47. is a matter of thought and science.  If, in the "back of your mind"
  48. you know about where you are on the imaginary "map in your head", you
  49. will know what direction you have to go or turn to in order to reach
  50. your goal. With practice, you will be as expert as any explorer.
