- Most Sapphire display commands (such as FILES, READ, etc.) don't show you
- everything; they show you what's NEW. After all, that's what you usually
- want to see. The SET command changes the behaviour of the display commands
- so you can see things you have seen before, or skip some things so that
- you start looking at a more recent day#.

- - A "Temporary SET" will not change the system's memory of what you have
- seen. Use it if you simply want to briefly look back -- for example, to
- re-read a few old messages or check on some old files.
-
- - "Hard SET" changes the system's memory. You are saying, in effect,
- "I am not interested in what happened before such-and-such a day#." You
- might do this if you have been away for a while and you only want to see
- the last 3 days worth of files and messages.

- SET can be used to modify almost any display command: READ, FILES,
- MESSAGES, OBSERVE, USERS and so on. For example, if you temporarily SET
- back 3 days then do an OBSERVE, you can see who has visited in the past
- three days.

- SET is especially powerful when used with the NAMES and TEXT commands. If
- you temporarily SET back 7 days, set NAMES to FRED/MARY and TEXT to
- CABBAGE/KINGS, then enter the MESSAGES command, you will see a list of the
- past week's messages from Fred or Mary in which the summary line mentions
- roughage or royalty.
