ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 1. LPD Port Icon Settings ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
LPD ports allow Workplace Shell printer icons to be redirected to remote LPD
printers. Before print jobs can be submitted to an LPD port, the LPRPORTD
program must be running. Use the Autostart page of the TCP/IP Configuration
Notebook to have LPRPORTD started automatically. The TCP/IP Configuration
Notebook is in your TCP/IP folder.
To configure your LPD port, simply fill in the appropriate fields. Some fields
are required, such as LPD Server and LPD Printer, and others are optional. For
a detailed explanation of each option, select from the list below:

ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2. LPD Server ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Type the name of an LPD server where output is to be sent. This is a required
field.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 3. LPD Printer ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Type the name of the printer on an LPD server where the output is to be sent.
This is a required field.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 4. Host Name ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Optional: Type the name sent in the control file as the source's host name.
If you leave this field blank, your local host name is used.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 5. User ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Optional: Type the name sent in the control file as the user creating the
print job. If you leave this field blank, the pszUserName field of the print
job is sent as the user name.
Note: If pszUserName is null, this field defaults to <unknown>.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 6. Spooler Prefix ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Initially this field contains the spooler prefix expected by the OS/2* LPR
server (LPD). You can change the initial value by specifying some other string
that will precede the spooler parameter data in the control file.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 7. Spooler Parameters ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Select this check box to enable the passing of spooler parameters to the
spooler for a specific print job. If you check this box, the information
associated with that job is sent in the control file.
Deselect this check box to disable the passing of spooler parameters.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 8. Queue Prefix ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Initially this field contains the queue prefix expected by the OS/2* LPR server
(LPD). You can change the initial value by specifying some other string that
will precede the queue parameter data in the control file.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 9. Queue Parameters ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Select this check box to enable the passing of queue parameters to the queue
processor for a specific print job. If you check this box, the information
associated with that job is sent in the control file.
Deselect this check box to disable the passing of queue parameters.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 10. Network Prefix ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Initially this field contains the network prefix expected by the OS/2* LPR
server (LPD). You can change the initial value by specifying some other string
that will precede the network parameter data in the control file.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 11. Network Parameters ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Select this check box to enable the passing of network parameters to the
network driver for a specific print job. If you check this box, the information
associated with that job is sent in the control file.
Deselect this check box to disable the passing of network parameters.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 12. Display Port Settings on Print ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Select this check box to display the port icon settings window for every print
job. This gives you the opportunity to modify your print job specifications.
Deselect this check box to disable the automatic display of the port icon
settings window.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 13. Enable Data Filter ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Select this check box to enable data filtering. For more information on data
filtering, see the Readme file provided with the TCP/IP Version 2.0 for OS/2
Base Kit.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 14. Filter ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Enter the name of the data filter. For more information on the data filter,
see the Readme file provided with the TCP/IP Version 2.0 for OS/2 Base Kit.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 15. Send Mail on Receipt ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Select this check box to send mail to the user at the machine where the job
originated, after the print job completes. Type the user's name in the User
field.
Deselect this check box to disable the sending of mail when the print job is
completed.
Note: The current OS/2* LPR server does not support sending mail when the
print job is completed.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 16. User ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Optional: Type user information in the User field. If this field is left
blank, the User field from the Source Information group is used.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 17. Print banner page ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Select this check box to request a banner page to be printed with the job.
Deselect this check box to prevent the printing of a banner page.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 18. Class ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Optional: Type in the banner page classification-for example, Confidential. If
this field is left blank, the Hostname field from the Source Information group
is used.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 19. Additional Control Cards ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Optional: Specify additional controls in the Additional Control Cards field.
Type free-form text in this field. This text is parsed, and keywords are
replaced with corresponding values for the job being printed. To specify the
format that you want your server to interpret data as, add a print request
control card appropriate to your needs.
For example, if you would like the server to interpret data as a UNIX pr
command input file, specify the following in the Additional Control Cards
field:
p<jobfilename>
Note: The control card must be a valid print request control card to be
accepted. In the above example, if any blank spaces were placed after p or
after <jobfilename>, this would not have been a valid print request, and the
default would have been used in its place. The default control card is
l<jobfilename>.

These keywords correspond to fields in the PRJINFO3 structure for a specific
print job. For example, you could add the following control card to your
control file:
Xpriority=<priority>
By default (priority default) this adds xpriority=50 to your control file.
If you want a less-than (<) character in the data, it must be preceded by a
backslash character (\). If you want a backslash character, enter two of them
(\\).
For example:
Xpriority=\<<priority>>
becomes
Xpriority=<50>
If a keyword does not match one of the predefined ones listed above, the
environment is checked for a matching environment variable.
Note: Environment variables are case-sensitive.
If a job fails, you will be prompted to either cancel, retry, or return to the
setup window for the specified port.
