LinkUp Edition 12 Notes
It has been a year, and LinkUp is past due for a release; what better
time than the weekend of the '96 Chicago CoCo Fest? Needless to say, this
edition of LinkUp has gone through some considerable changes over the
past year.
What Has Changed
================
First and foremost, the source has been converted over entirely to
ANSI C. Of the many features that ANSI C offers, prototyping was
particuarly helpful in finding several bugs. In addition to this,
diligent testing from several individuals allows me to say with a great
degree of confidence that LinkUp 12 is the most bug-free of any of its
preceeding versions.
The conversion to ANSI C also gave me an opportunity to compile LinkUp
with the latest version of Ultra C. This gave LinkUp a considerable
boost in performance. In addition, LinkUp 12 has the added benefit of
being linked with the ANSI'fied, Ultra C'fied version of Mike Haaland's
CGFX library which also greatly benefited from Ultra C's optimization.
From top to bottom, LinkUp and all accompanying utilities have been
compiled with Ultra C full optimization.
To further enhance performance, I have included two sets of the
executables in this archive. One set is for 68070 based MM/1's and the
other is for 68340 MM/1a's. To this end, there are two install scripts:
install.68k for those of you with 68070's and install.cpu32 for 68340
users.
Some quick notes:
- Phonebook now has an Autodialer with retry capability. Also,
due to several requests, you can navigate through the Phonebook
entries with the keyboard.
- Eight keyboard macros are now available by using ALT-1 to ALT-8.
- For a neat effect, be sure to merge the standard patterns file.
LinkUp will shade non-available options in the menus instead of
just changing them to a darker color.
- Regarding CIS B+ Protocol: due to problems reported with this
feature by some LinkUp users and my no longer having a CompuServe account,
I have decided to remove CIS B/B+ support from this edition of LinkUp.
- Although not yet exhaustive, VT-100 emulation has been improved.
Finally, thanks to all of you who use LinkUp and continue to provide me
with comments, suggestions and kudos. I hope to continue the effort
in making LinkUp the "best free" telecommunications program available
for the MM/1.
