do not need to use this command.

Available Memory
This informational pop-up window is displayed by pressing <F2> from
either the Question Display panel or from an individual question
field. It displays information on the number of questions currently in
this section and the minimum amount of space available for additional
questions
The line "There is enough memory for at least XX more" indicates that
you can add at least XX more questions to this section (up to 150
total). This IS NOT a maximum amount. Depending on the amount of
memory in your computer, you should be able to add the full 150
questions.
If you run out of memory or try to add more than 150 questions, the
program will display an error message.
Memory Full - Add
This error pop-up is displayed if you attempt to add more questions
than available memory will permit.
If you get this message, you must save this section and create a new
section to continue adding questions. You may see how many questions
you have in the section by pressing <F2> after clearing this error
message.
If you feel that your computer should have enough memory to allow for
more questions, exit the program (after saving) and free up additional
memory. File management programs or TSR (Terminate and Stay Resident)
programs can decrease the number of questions you may have in each
section.
Test Full
This error pop-up is displayed if you attempt to add more than 98
sections to a test. 98 sections is the maximum number of sections you
may have in any one test.
If you have more questions to add, try putting the remaining questions
into existing sections, or start a new test.
Memory Full - Load
This error pop-up is displayed if there is not enough memory for the
program to load the selected test section from disk.
Obviously the program CAN handle a section of this size because you
were able to create it. There are several things you can try:
- Re-boot your computer (<CNTL><ALT><DEL>) and try again. Sometimes
memory can be lost during long sessions. If this works, your section
must be close to the maximum memory size of your computer. You
should use the "Get" command to split this section up into two or
more sections.
- Be sure that there are no file management or TSR (Terminate and Stay
Resident) programs using available memory. If there are, remove them
and try again.

hard drive. Then copy ALL files found on the diskette back to your
test data sub-directory.
If you don't have a hard drive, you must put a clean disk in the OTHER
disk drive and specify it in the new path. (for example, if the path
currently is B:\, put a new diskette in your A: drive and type "A:\"
as the new path. DO NOT REMOVE THE DISK WHICH CURRENTLY CONTAINS THE

Stop Printing
The stop printing command issues the DOS command PRINT /T, which
purges anything currently in the print queue.
Depending on the size of the buffer in your printer, printing may stop
immediately or may continue until the part of the test in the buffer
is completed.
If your printer continues to print, you can reset the buffer by
powering down the printer.

Edit Pop-up
The Edit pop-up displays the standard text editing options as well as
any printer code options which were defined in Setup command of the
Section level action bar. Standard options are:
- Paste: Copy text which you COPIED or CUT from another part of the
question at the current cursor position.
- Copy: Copy the highlighted text into the "buffer" so that you may
PASTE it somewhere else in the question.
- Cut: Like copy, only the text is deleted from the current position.
- Make Normal: Use to reset any printer codes in the text. For
example, to "turn off" the bold face from a word, you would
highlight that word and select MAKE NORMAL.
Other options, such as underline, bold, and/or italic may be
available.
Highlight Text
Use the arrow keys to highlight the text you wish to edit and then
press F4 (block) to display the Edit pop-up.
Test Writer provides for special print attributes such as underlining
and bold face by imbedding a special "edit" code in front of the word
or words you wish to print in a special way. This edit code will
appear to be a normal blank space. Remember to not delete this special
"space" when you edit the text in the future.
Words which special attributes are shown in red rather than the usual
black text. Additionally, the type of attribute for a block of text
will appear in the upper right corner of your screen.
Block Warning - Reset
This error message indicates that the area you highlighted did not
contain any special edit codes to reset.
You will get this error message if you attempt to use the MAKE NORMAL
edit function on text which is already normal text (i.e. not
underlined, bold face, etc.). If you are attempting to reset a single
word, you may also get this message if you don't highlight the entire
word. Highlighting only part of the word will prevent Test Writer from
finding the edit code that is "hidden" in front of it.
Edit Warning
Test Writer provides for special print functions such as underlining
and bold face by imbedding a special "edit" code in front of the word
or words you wish to print in a special way. This code will appear on
your screen as a space.
If there is not a blank space available at the end of your question to
allow the insertion of the edit code in front of the first word, this
error will occur.
Unless you can shorten your question, you will not be able to use the
edit function on the first word of the question.
Block Warning - Set code
In order to make text print with an underline or bold face (for
example), you must highlight the entire word. You can't highlight part
of a word. Test Writer must know where the entire word is so an edit
code can be "hidden" in front of it.
This error may also occur if you attempt to edit a block of text which
already has a special attribute. For example, attempting to apply bold
face to an underlined area. You may only use one special attribute at
a time.
See HIGHLIGHT TEXT in the Help index for more information on how edit
codes are used.
Printer Codes - Clear
This pop-up is displayed to verify that you wish to clear all of the
printer codes and command names that are currently in the Printer
Codes box. Type Y to complete the clear command.
After using Clear, you must remember to SAVE the printer commands if
you wish to permanently clear the codes.
Print Options - Reset
This pop-up is displayed to verify that you wish to reset the options
in the Print Options box to their default settings. The default
setting are those that appeared in the Print Options box the first
time you displayed it after creating a new test.
After using Reset, you must remember to SAVE the Print Options if you
want to permanently reset the options. If you don't save, the options
will revert to those you have saved the nest time you open this test.
Line Length must be 60, 120, 180, or 240.
The line length field must be either 60, 120, 180, or 240. You can not
use lengths in between.
When you use line length, be sure to also include the necessary SETUP
CODES to set your printer to print a longer line.
Using Condensed print, most dot matrix printers can print a line
length of 120 on standard 8.5 x 11 inch paper. To use 180 or 240, you
need either a wide carriage printer or a printer which can print
landscape (such as a laser printer).
ERROR: 4 Setup codes only
The "on" code field and the "off" code field may only have 4 setup
codes per field. A code is defined as a number with a space after
it, between 1 and 3 digits in length.
If you need more then 4 codes, you can not use that command with Test
Writer.
ERROR: All commands must have an on & off code
Each printer command specified must have a value in the "on" field as
well as the "off" field. This is necessary so that Test Writer can
turn off the print attribute when necessary.
All print attribute commands will have a code which acts as a reset.
See your printer manual for details.
