  7. PREDIT is a SAV file EDITOR for Privateer by Origin.  This 2.1 upgrade to 
  8.  
  9. version 2.0 allows you to change the following game variables:
  10.  
  11.  
  12.  
  13.     1)    pilot cash credits, 
  14.  
  15.     2)    ship type and location (relocate to any of the 60 bases),
  16.  
  17.     3)    number of missions, 
  18.  
  19.     4)    mission selection (change to a different plot mission or
  20.  
  21.           force the completion of the active mission),
  22.  
  23.     5)    pilot name and callsign, 
  24.  
  25.     6)    missile and torpedo loadouts,
  26.  
  27.     7)    gun types and locations (including alien Steltek guns),
  28.  
  29.     8)    super shield levels (up to Shield Generator Level 11), and
  30.  
  31.     9)    engine upgrades.

  35. A unique DATABASE feature has been included.  You can store individual 
  36.  
  37. vehicle component records (edited or unedited) in the database file.  This 
  38.  
  39. file can then be used by yourself or others who want to selectively upgrade 
  40.  
  41. their individual vehicles.  For example, if you create a "super engine" record,
  42.  
  43. you can now store that record in the database where your friends can "install"
  44.  
  45. it on their vehicles.  Put your database file on a network or bulletin-board
  46.  
  47. service for LOTS of people to use!

  51. A FULL HEX/ASCII editor is available for "tailoring" your SAV files, individual
  52.  
  53. SAV file records, and the records stored in the database.

  57. PREDIT provides simple utilities for those who don't want to "experiment" with
  58.  
  59. their SAV files -- they just need to complete a mission, or they want better 
  60.  
  61. shields, engines, more $$$, etc.  It also now caters better to those who want 
  62.  
  63. to edit SAV file data and create their own custom vehicle components.  Plus you
  64.  
  65. can now store these components and share them with others.

  69. An updated version of the author's database file, PRECS.DAT, has been included.
  70.  
  71. It contains various vehicle component records including some internal engine
  72.  
  73. records the game uses for creating enemy and alien vehicle engines.  Call up
  74.  
  75. the database menu and view the record listing.  Items labeled "GENGINE" are the
  76.  
  77. internal game engines.  Experiment with these engines -- some are quite
  78.  
  79. interesting.

  83. The DEBUG switch is still active for viewing all debug listings.  Some of these 
  84.  
  85. listings get quite long, but if you want to write your own Privateer analysis or
  86.  
  87. edit routines, this is a great place to start!

  91. A few users reported PREDIT problems when trying to manipulate SAV files which
  92.  
  93. contained saved missions.  Their computers either halted or went into endless 
  94.  
  95. loops when PREDIT tried to load a SAV file containing more than one saved 
  96.  
  97. mission.  (Privateer can save up to three missions acquired from either the 
  98.  
  99. Mission Computer, Mercenary Guild, or Merchants Guild. It will also keep track 
  100.  
  101. of where you are in the primary plot line missions.)  This version of PREDIT
  102.  
  103. WILL READ AND PROCESS ALL TYPES OF SAV FILES, INCLUDING THOSE WITH SEVERAL
  104.  
  105. SAVED MISSIONS STORED IN THEM.  If any more file structure related problems
  106.  
  107. arise, please contact the author.
