Announcing Razor 4.0

It made it nicely through the beta process, and has survived a couple of weeks of 'silent' release on the net. It seems time to make the formal cry... Razor 4.0 is ready and available!

Partial screen dump

The release notes that come with the package go into all sorts of details, but some of the key points are worth mentioning here...

* File version control and build management now supports hierarchies. This will allow users to represent their entire development directory tree in a single Razor group.

* Ability to rename and delete files under control, while still having them available for creation of earlier threads.

* True drag-n-drop support for defining issue relationships between the various GUI's (as opposed to the prior copy-n-paste system).

* Incorporates significant database tuning which greatly reduces start up times.

* Report scripts have been modified to greatly enhance report times.

* All programs are now nicely set for the year 2000 rollover.

Snipet of issues program

* Now allows for command line manipulation of threads!

* Full upward compatibility with your existing 3.5 database. Upgrading to the new release is easy.

* Added a 'toolbar' to the issues program to make usage even easier.

* And... enhancements to the rz_toolbox, better default behaviors, more control over the GUI, nicer database by database configurability, as well as a score of customer suggested extensions and improvements.

In addition to all of the above, one of the major aspects of the new 4.0 release merits its own description...

Support for Windows 95/NT...

Windows start menu

We are pleased and excited to now offer a Windows 95/NT client for the problem tracking aspect of Razor! This new client application provides a full function port of the original UNIX based client. You'll be impressed at how smoothly your people will be able to switch back and forth from the X and PC based interfaces.

From our perspective, this is being offered as simply another supported platform. There is no charge for existing customers to download the new executables from the net, install them on their PC's, and begin running the package.

For new customers that want to check this out, you will need to pull down not only the Windows 95/NT client program, but you'll also need to bring down and install one of the UNIX based server programs.

Windows 95/NT clients for the CM aspects of Razor (the versions and threads programs) will be available later this year.
