ADAMS in Action

SCREEN SHOT

A tractor's suspension, which consists of only its tires, has little damping. When driving down the road, it can develop an unstable pitch velocity; a phenomenon referred to as "loping."

In the ADAMS simulations, the tractor drives down the road and hits a bump. The top animation shows the uncontrolled version. The bottom animation shows that by using a control system to raise and lower the lift in response to the pitching motion, the loping can be dampened out.

The plot shows that the controlled lift causes the tractor loping to settle down much sooner compared to the base design, resulting in a much safer ride.
