The Sony DIR-1000 is a high performance digital tape recorder able to record up to 100 Gbytes on an industry standard D-1 cassette, using the ANSI ID-1 format. Random access to data on the tape is supported.
The SRi356 provides the capability to control the recorder and exchange data with the recorder via a number of interfaces. Control may be exercised via fast wide SCSI-2 or an RS-422 serial port. Data may be transferred through fast wide SCSI-2 or through an external data port at rates up to 20 Mbytes/s peak and 16 Mbytes/s sustained.
