OptiStruct is an optimization tool which synthesizes design concepts or layout based on finite element methods. OptiStruct uses topology optimization and has the unique capability to create conceptual designs given only a finite element model of package space, load cases and boundary conditions, and an estimate or target of available material. Unlike the traditional approach to shape or size optimization, OptiStruct synthesizes the optimal layout during conceptual design, and thus does not require an intial design as input.
