BWI supplies a range of intelligent communication controllers for the VME bus to meet various serial communication requirements and performance levels. The controllers utilize an OS-9® real-time kernel to allow off-loading of protocol software from the host computer, and communicate with the host either with an application level shared memory interface, or using socket drivers which allow a full TCP/IP implementation across the VME backplane. HDLC/SDLC, X.25, ISDN, Bisync, 1553, and custom synchronous and asynchronous protocols are supported. Controllers are available with from 4 to 16 high speed synchronous ports, or as many as 64 asynchronous ports.
