FastLink is a real-time, high bandwidth networking solution for simulation and data acquisition applications. FastLink provides a deterministic 100 Mbytes / second bandwidth channel for data movement between SGI systems with a VME I/O bus, such as Onyx and Challenge series machines. FastLink is also ideal for connection of an SGI platform to other complting and I/O systems with a VME I/O bus.
FastLink is a true peer-to-peer, multi-drop network that handles the complete data transfer from souce to destination. The FastLink network interface installed in an SGI host is capable of performing direct read/write operations on the global memory without undue overhead on the host CPU. Up to 225 notes can be connected on a FastLink network at distances up to 2,000 ft.
