The COST ADVANTAGE is an expert Design for Manufacturability (DFM) tool which provides cost and producibility feedback as a design evolves. It includes the ability to customize Cognition-supplied knowledge bases (Assembly, Injection Molding, Machining, etc.) and to develop new knowledge bases for proprietary manufacturing processes. It can import design features (hole, slot, flange, rib, etc.) from feature-based solid modelers in order to estimate the manufacturing costs of designs. Cognition's MECHANICAL ADVANTAGE II passes design features directly to the COST ADVANTAGE via a real time connection so that design engineers get immediate feedback on the cost impact of their design decisions.
