VxWorks is designed for scalability, with hundreds of possible configurations. At its heart is the highly efficient wind
microkernel, which supports fast multitasking and both preemptive and round-robin scheduling. Intertask communication mechanisms include shared memory, message queues, pipes, sockets, RPC, and signals. Semaphores include binary, counting and mutual exclusion with priority inheritance.
VxWorks suppors a wide range of industry standards including POSIX 1003.lb Real-Time Extensions, ANSI C and TCP/IP netwroking.
