TIM provides protection for Unix workstations attached to the Internet, as well as portection from other workstations on an internal network by providing a repacement for the standard inetd. TIM authenticates requsts for services and enables the system administrator to monitor the status of the enhanced inetd and services started. Authentication occurs at a session level rather than a packet level like many full Firewall products. TIM authenticates users at a session level by checking their source and destination IP addresses, source and destination ports, service being requested, and checks for valid time/date criteria. TIM includes a Motif interface and a monitor which dynamically mainatins a current view of the network topology.
