The Applied Analysis Spectral Analytical Process (ASSAP) is a new remote sensing technique for detecting features in imagery from spaceborne and airborne sensors. This process operates at a subpixel level, enabling the user to detect and identify features as small as 2% of a pixel, depending on the number of spectral bands available (20% for LANDSAT Thematic Mapper). The process not only detects features, but also quantifies how much of the feature is present in each pixel. An environment correction component converts digital counts to reflectance, enhancing the ability to apply a signiture derived from one image to geographically and temporally diverse images.
