Xscent - an olfactory interface for X Window developers.
Xscent is a protocol analyzer for X11, allowing programmers to see exactly what is happening in the client-server communication stream. The tool fits between a client application and the servers, recording the activity on the stream and providing a windowed interface for examining the traffic.
The tool was built to help developers identify problems that are hidden by high level toolkits. Xscent identifies what is really happening at the lowest level, providing clues towards resolving erratic behavior in the application. The tool also monitors resource use, and can help identify bottlenecks when fine tuning an application.
