MRE

The Memory & Rendering Engine is the central hub of the O2 system architecture, having direct paths to all other subsystems: memory, CPU, I/O, compression, display and imaging. This completely new rendering engine, included in the MRE ASIC, replaces previous generations' geometry engine and CPU implementation.

Features:

  • Multi-ported high-speed memory controller assures efficient access to memory bandwidth.
  • Hardware acceleration, including:
    • Vertex rasterization
    • Texture mapping
    • Z-buffering
    • Fog
    • Anti-aliasing
  • Shares memory with/manipulates data from imaging engine (ICE)
  • Supports to 2GB/s data transfer between memory & MRE
  • Implements the OpenGL rasterization pipeline implemented in hardware
  • 8-bit color index & 32-bit full color modes
  • Assorted color pixel formats
  • Pixel transfers (DMA)
