Fractal Dimension

Calculating the degree of complexity of the cortical folding pattern using fractal geometry may help detect subtle areas of malformed cortex that cause medically intractable seizures. These abnormal areas of cortex can be difficult to detect visually due to the intricate three dimensional nature of the gyral folds. Silicon Graphics® technologies make it possible to conduct joint studies between the UBC Department of Computer Sciences, MAGIC, and the University of California S.F. Medical Center.
